Ep. 44. How limiting-beliefs can hinder personal growth | Communication is more effective when done ’naked’!
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
07/18/22 • 74 min
Caleb Nelson describes himself as Your Concierge to Happiness, Functional Spokesperson and Image Consultant. What does that mean? Well, put simply he has dedicated his life to inspiring others to live life to their fullest potential. His company (and podcast of the same name) Naked Sunday is the pursuit of all aspects of personal growth. Exploring all topics, ranging from health, love, spirituality, wealth, discovering your purpose, and beyond. He works with leaders and business owners to eliminate obstacles and shed self-limiting beliefs. He believes we need more great leaders in the world and helps the cause by facilitating the change. With Naked Sunday he hopes to ‘hold space for people to be truly honest and authentic, cultivate a greater connection within themselves and their relationships, and ultimately live a happy and fulfilling life.’ During our fascinating conversation, we discuss how he does this, of course, but he also tells me how the pursuit for his own ‘nexus of happiness’ developed out of a childhood spent as part of the religious cult known as the ‘Moonies’ and how the prospect of an arranged marriage (like his parents) and lack of autonomy left him feeling like an outsider, with the need to give and receive unconditional love.

P2S and YATM podcast, guest Gordon Fong
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
12/05/21 • 25 min
My guest is local businessman and Southbourne legend, Gordon Fong.
Apologies in advance for the sound quality and background noise. WE recorded huddled in a corner of the downstairs bar having been evacuated after a power cut from our original venue and following Gordons presentation at the You Are The Media Christmas extravaganza. We chatted whilst everyone else was enjoying the ‘after show’ festivities. Hopefully it won't distract too much from my fabulous conversation with Gordon.
We discussed, amongst other things, finding your tribe and the importance of community in business and at home. Gordon also talked about the confidence the YATM community has given him to step from the back of the room to the front and how international speaker and author, Mark Schaffer, inspired him to be Gordon Fong!

Banish imposter syndrome and public speaking anxiety with NLP, with guest Vanda Varga. #25
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
08/28/23 • 33 min
My guest is Vanda Varga, the Tour Guide to Your Mind! Vanda is an accredited trainer and Master Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), hypnotherapy and a Silva Method practitioner.
As a tour guide to your mind, Vanda can help you explore, uncover and re-map your map of the world.
I have recently been a student of Vanda's and what a fabulous experience it was. I took the NLP practitioner training course and am now an accredited NLP practitioner! 👏
She's an amazingly engaging and supportive teacher. A credit to her knowledge and experience of her subject but also to her communication skills.
She explains in our conversation one of the presuppositions of NLP - there is no failure only feedback - i.e., we either succeed or learn! She explains how what we shine a light on is where our energy flows, so choose where you direct your attention!
It was an enlightening conversation that also touched on Vanda's experience with the Silva Mind Control Method as a child and how it shaped her map of the world.
We also discussed her amazing tool bag of NLP techniques including The Circle of Excellence and anchoring that help build confidence and diminish the anxiety of speaking in public. As well as how to overcome imposter thinking by speaking more positively to ourselves.

Inside The Mind of a Podcast Junkie. Why you need a Podcast for your business. #46
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
04/17/24 • 32 min
"Podcasting changed my life!" so says podcast Junkie, Harry Duran.
In this previously live episode of Speaking About Speaking my guest, Podcast Strategist, Keynote Speaker, Author and Podcast Junkie, Harry and I discuss the merits of an actors training and how it can help you show and share your vulnerable side.
Harry spent 20 years working in the Marketing departments of JPMorganChase and E-Trade before switching to the world of podcasting.
He’s hosted his own show since 2014 and has published over 300+ interviews across his 3 shows.
Originally, with an interest in electronic music, he intended to podcast interview DJs but soon pivoted when he realised that tracking down and interviewing superstar DJs wasn’t so easy! And so, Podcast Junkies was born, an interview-based show focused on, he says, the true superstars of podcasting, the hosts themselves.
He’s since founded FullCast, a full-service, done-for-you podcast agency and has made it his personal mission to help one thousand business owners launch their podcast and become the leading authority in their market.
And if that wasn’t enough, he founded and hosts the Vertical Farming Podcast. He explains what that is and why finding a niche, especially if it's on a topic that 'lights you up' can lead to success for you and your audience.
This is a fascinating conversation about speaking, podcasting, acting, and farming!

How failure led to Linkedin and marketing success with guest Gus Bhandal #21
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
07/16/23 • 32 min
In the latest of the Speaking About Speaking live streams, I speak about speaking with Gus Bhandal, a highly experienced marketing professional and go-to guru on all things LinkedIn!
He specialises in social media, events, and communications across a range of industries. He loves orange and is the founder of ‘The M Guru’ – a digital marketing agency, where the M stands for marketing and also for media, management... and magnificent!
Gus has also done a bit of speaking. We met through the Digital Women network (Yes, Digital WOMEN!) and I heard him speak at Failed Nights, part of the You Are the Media Creator Day event, where he shared his winding and often amusing career journey, proving that there are no failures only feedback.
We discuss how he uses speaking to promote his personal brand and how failure led him to marketing (and LinkedIn) success.
Plus, why chatting cheese and onion crisps helped him build business connections.

Be daring with marketing and stand out from the crowd with guest Anna Bravington. #23
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
07/28/23 • 33 min
For this episode, I spoke about speaking with Anna Bravington, marketing strategist and co-founder of Those That Dare.
Anna has 24 years of experience across digital and marketing and has worked on some crazy campaigns in partnership with brands like Microsoft and PlayStation whilst heading up digital marketing at GAME.
In 2022 she was named one of the NatWest Telegraph 100 Female Entrepreneurs to Watch.
Anna is a huge advocate for diversity in marketing and is investing in new ways of capturing diverse voices.
Most recently Anna has joined 36 authors, from 10 countries, to collaborate on a Mark Schaefer project and write the first book ever created entirely by a Web3 community entitled, The Most Amazing Marketing Book Ever. In her chapter, Anna discusses Experiential marketing. She reads her own chapter and tells me how reading your own words is harder than it looks.
Anna is also a speaker. She has presented at, among others at Brighton SEO and the You Are the Media Creator Day. She is multi-faceted and multi-talented.
Among the questions, I asked Anna was what advice would she give to an introvert, i.e., somebody that's quite shy but knows they need to get out there and promote themselves by speaking in public?
Her answer was to start where you feel comfortable and with an audience that will encourage and support you and also give you constructive (not destructive) feedback.
And I agree. Take baby steps! Start small and start with an audience that loves and supports you.
For Anna and myself that audience is the You Are The Media community, but for you, it might be a group, or online community you belong to, family or even your other half (an audience of 1 is still an audience).
Anna also tells me how you can successfully market Christmas dinner in a tin! Be daring with your marketing, she says.
She is a lover of data and says by using SEO correctly she can get CEOs excited about the metrics.

Confidence comes when you stop ’should-ing’ on yourself! SAS with Jackie Goddard. #24
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
08/07/23 • 30 min
The one that should have been Jackie speaking about speaking with Vanda Varga but... 😱
I made a huge BOO BOO and got the day wrong!!
Apologies. So, I spoke about speaking with myself. I answered some questions that I'd asked myself but have answers that are relevant to anyone that needs to raise their confidence to speak to their audience. These include:
What can you learn from being on stage?
What happens when you work at the edge of your comfort zone?
How can learning to improvise help with confidence and creativity?
How can you connect with your audience?
How when you ask your 'tribe' what they think of you, you can uncover your Superpower and help your Personal Brand.
Plus, we waste so much time being who we think we 'should' be that we forget that we are enough just as we are.

"If I hadn't been on that stage I don't know where my business would be now!" #42
Power To Speak with Confidence. Conversations that will inspire and empower.
02/17/24 • 31 min
Get out of your comfort zone and learn to speak with confidence. It's important for your business says Relentlessly helpful® LinkedIn® nerd, trainer & consultant, John Espirian.
John was my guest for this this previously LIVE episode of Speaking about Speaking LIVE.
John helps small businesses & solopreneurs build an effective presence on LinkedIn® and the web without using pointless ads, cringey outreach or craptacular sales.
Relentlessly helpful® is his trademarked phrase, and I having known John for a while I know it’s not just a trademark but his life’s purpose!
He's not only a LinkedIn nerd (his word not mine) but a speaker and now a conference organiser, too. Did you know that LinkedIn doesn’t run its own conference? I think they’re missing a trick, but luckily for us John has stepped up and with the help of Jeremy Freeman and Gus Bhandal has organised the LinkedIn focused Uplift Live event in Birmingham next month.
So, I took the opportunity to ask John not just about speaking, video and showing up on LinkedIn but also how he went about choosing and booking speakers and what he thought it took to be a good speaker. He also gives some great advice on how to get picked to speak at an event.
There are some fabulous questions from the audience and some wise and insightful take aways from John. I particularly liked his advice to make the biggest promise you can keep and use the smallest set of words to describe yourself.
This episode is bursting with nuggets of speaking, personal brand and LinkedIn gold!
