96 - Potstirrer SCOOPS!: The Great Resignation
Potstirrer Podcast
10/21/21 • 27 min
In this episode, Jaye discusses "The Great Resignation," the abnormally high number of American workers voluntarily walking away from work, which has been a constant trend since April 2021. Why are so many workers leaving their jobs or even careers? Jaye dispels the myth of the "lazy unemployed who don't want to work," and points out what most "quitters" are actually doing once they resign. In addition, Jaye talks about vaccine mandates instituted by the public and private sector, and reveals what is truly to blame for the difficult choice many vaccine hesitant people face between taking "the jab" or losing their source of income.

Jaye gives her thoughts on the recently-implemented Texas law restricting abortion past six weeks gestation. The discussion includes maternal mortality, adoption, surveillance culture and more. In this public release of a bonus episode originally released on Patreon in December 2019, Jaye discusses the life of Dr. Timothy Leary, the "Godfather of LSD." How did someone so apolitical (in the height of an extremely political era!) make political enemies, and what made President Richard Nixon call him "the most dangerous man in America?"

It's a new year, and Jaye ushers in 2019 with thoughts on the government shutdown, advice for the Democratic Party regarding the 2020 presidential election, and a read on Vice President Mike Pence. What makes Pence worse than Trump, and why would a Pence presidency be worse for the United States than Trump remaining in office?

In today's episode, Jaye discusses recent news stories related to undocumented immigration and refugees from Latin America. Where are the 1500 missing migrant children that were being tracked by the federal government? How are children in the custody of US Customs being treated? And is there any moral or ethical issue with calling MS-13 gang members "animals?" Jaye delves into past events as she makes the case that when we dehumanize other people, it becomes all too easy to treat them inhumanely - or watch and do nothing.
CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes discussion of physical and sexual violence, and descriptions of oppressive behavior.

26 - Detroit/America Part II: The Fifth Quarter
Potstirrer Podcast
04/22/18 • 36 min
In the concluding episode of a two-part series, Jaye continues her discussion on the decline of the United States within the framework of her hometown, Detroit, Michigan. She discusses the conditions in Detroit prior to the 1967 Detroit riots that led to the riots and the decline of the city, including workplace discrimination, housing segregation, the destruction of tight-knit black communities by urban renewal, racial strife between white and black Detroiters, and tensions between police and the community. As Detroit is making its comeback, what lessons can Americans learn from Detroit that will help the US survive its "fifth quarter?"

Bonus - The Bill Clinton Impeachment Scandal in the Age of #MeToo
Potstirrer Podcast
05/30/22 • 37 min
In this public release of a Patreon bonus episode originally released in November 2018, Jaye goes back in time to tell the story of the impeachment of President Bill Clinton in 1998, and the scandals that led up to it. Clinton - and many of his supporters - believe that he was unfairly targeted by congressional Republicans for a consensual affair with a White House intern. But was that the case? And was Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky simply a "private" matter, an example of immorality unbecoming of the commander-in-chief, or perhaps something else?
