Stuff We've Missed: George Michael - Faith / Top Solo Artists who Came from Groups
Pop Culture Yearbook
07/15/24 • 67 min
C-c-c-c-c'mon! It's time to revisit one of our favorite albums of the 80s: Faith by George Michael from 1987. Tons of hit singles, great videos, and a lot of specific nostalgia all came out of this solo debut. We share all those wonderful memories and break down each track.
Then we get draftin'. Since George Michael was in Wham! first, then became even bigger on his own, we draft our favorite artists who had great solo careers after being in a group (or in some cases even going back and forth).

20 years ago, Green Day had a resurgence that took the country by storm with the release of American Idiot. Not many bands have two absolute classic albums in their catalog, but ten years after Dookie, Billie Joe and the boys added another. Spanning over thirty years, Green Day has an extensive and amazing catalog of songs. We draft our top five apiece to end this episode and somehow narrow it down to fifteen. Will your favorite song make the cut?

1990: Memories and Movies, Music, TV Drafts
Pop Culture Yearbook
03/04/24 • 61 min
1990 was a seminal year for your hosts at PCY. The memories run deep. Go back in time as we discuss moving, the transition from middle to high school, and carefree summers.
As far as pop culture content, the options felt endless. In TV, Seinfeld began, Cheers was riding high, ABC sitcoms were hanging in there, and Saturday Night Live had maybe its best cast ever.
In music, we were transitioning from cassettes to CDs, still loving pop, but also finding more "mature" styles. MC Hammer and C+C Music Factory were huge, but we also loved The Black Crowes, Sinead O'Connor, INXS, and the Gear Daddies.
Finally, how can you top movies like Goodfellas, House Party, Pretty Woman, and The Hunt for Red October. It was a HUGE year. Listen now!

2007: Superbad / Top Comedies 2000-2009
Pop Culture Yearbook
06/26/23 • 56 min
We're closing out 2007 with the high school classic Superbad. This small budget movie made big money with many stars who are still big today: Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Seth Rogen, Bill Hader, and Emma Stone were all in the early stages of their careers at the time. How does it hold up? How controversial will Brad be on this one?
Superbad was just one of many comedies to explode through the 2000s. So we draft our favorites, including Wedding Crashers, Step Brothers, The 40 Year Old Virgin, Borat, and more. This is a fun list with no shortage of choices. Listen now!
