Meritocracy is the idea that those who make the most effort deserve to be where they are. In other words, if some people have more economic success and accomplishments than others is because they have worked harder. In this podcast series on meritocracy, I will analyze critically the different aspects the meritocratic ideal takes for granted.

Also, I will show how this way of interpreting reality can lead us into harmful ways of living our lives and treating others.

This episode is part 3 to the podcast series on meritocracy. I have a conversation with one of my best friends Tristen Sleeper. We talk about why letting the market decide what is valuable is a terrible idea. We discussed market value versus moral value, instrumental value versus end value, and more. This is the line-up:

#1 Why a society based on merit can’t fix inequality.

#2 Why nobody “deserves” what they have.

#3 Why letting the market decide what is valuable is a terrible idea.

#4 Why an anti-meritocratic society would be a better society.
