Mariam and I met on LinkedIn. What interested me most about her is that she is pursuing dual degrees: PharmD and MS PGX.
How did Mariam hear about the dual degree program at Manchester University College of Pharmacy?
Mariam learned about it in her P1 year at Manchester. She was interested in the potential advantages a dual degree offered.
How do PharmD/MS PGX dual degree students fit all their coursework in?
Summer classes after P1, P2, and P3 years.
Can Post-Baccalaureate students (like me!) also enroll in the MS PGX Program?
Yes!
Growing up with Pharmacogenomics
In addition to her MS PGX coursework, some PGX is also taught in her PharmD academics. To her, pharmacogenomics has always been part of her formal education. As a 2001, BS Pharm graduate, I had a much different experience. I learned about PGX well after graduation (through CE), but Mariam is “growing up” with it.
P4 Rotations in a dual degree program
Mariam is completing ten rotations. Each is 4 weeks long. 2 PGX-based rotations (8 weeks in total) are required for her MS PGX Degree. They also count toward her PharmD Degree. Mariam worked at Patients Choice Laboratories in Indianapolis, IN for 8 weeks.
