Late doesn’t mean canceled.
Matthew 25:1-12
It is important to know what comes before this parable, it is also important to know what is coming after – In Chap 23 Jesus says, “Beware of those who do not practice what they preach” vs3 and Jesus also says vs12 “whoever exalts themselves will be humbled and whoever humbles themselves will be exalted” – then He delivers the 7 woes (Jesus is not just condemning them but is asking them to change) – don’t shut people out – don’t lead people down the wrong path.
Who is greater, the Creator or the creation?
Remember, your Father is about Justice, Mercy and Faithfulness- clean the inside, then the outside will be clean- avoid hypocrisy and wickedness- admit the sins of your past.
Then Jesus begins to teach that there will be a return and a judgement
What comes after the parable is the crucifixion.
What we can learn:
- Preparation is valuable:
- Be ready
- Be equipped
- Be aware
- We matter {as a part of the wedding party}, but we are not essential.
- The wedding was not called off because 5 weren’t ready
- Delayed does NOT mean canceled
- 2 Peter 3:4 and saying, “Where is the promise of his coming? Forever since our fathers fell asleep, everything has gone along as it has from the beginning of creation.”
- Just because it isn’t our timing does not mean it isn’t right or that it’s not happening
- Illustration: I had a wedding once that was supposed to start at 6:00 and the Bride showed up at 5:59 with her dress still in the bag…… but we still celebrated a wedding
- The groom is coming – you only really need 2 people for a wedding – the Groom and the Bride – Jesus has His Bride, we need to be ready
Nothing will stop the King from fulfilling His covenant with His Bride; let Him find us ready!
