Today’s episode is going to be a little bit shorter and simpler. We’re not going to do the intro music. We’re not going to do the regular strategies, tips for growing your audience of ideal music students, of making passive income revenue streams.

Today, I want to address something really important and that is limiting beliefs.

Here’s the thing, a lot of musicians have limiting beliefs. We have limiting beliefs about our music, about how good of a musician we can be, about if we can make a career as a musician, whether it be full-time, whether it be part-time. We hold on to limiting beliefs.

And I know this because I, myself, have and still do hold on to limiting beliefs.

In this episode:

1. Limiting Beliefs and what they are 2. Different kinds of limiting beliefs to overcome 3. Some of my past and current limiting beliefs and what I’ve done to overcome them

It’s been a long journey to get to where I am in my online music education business today.

There’s been a lot of ups and downs. There’s been a lot of victories and roadblocks. And ultimately, there’s been a lot of lessons learned. It’s those lessons learned over time that has propelled my business to go from making almost no money at all to now making a 6-figure income.

And so, I think the power of stories is really important. I want to share with you my story and the 4 phases that I observed in my business from going from zero to scaling my business up.

I’m going to share with you those 4 phases to help you shorten your learning curve, to help you avoid some of the things I’ve done and to see the path that I took that ultimately has led to some success.

In this episode:

1. Phase 1: Getting started and making my first kind of income 2. Phase 2: Growing, learning from mistakes, focusing my musical niche, and growing my mailing list 3. Phase 3: The turning point. Website redos, owning 100%, and creating my own products. 4. Phase 4: Exponential growth, more products, and focusing on what was actually working. 5. Where I am now in my music entrepreneur journey

For me, building a business around teaching music online through passive income revenue streams is not just about making more money.

So, on today’s show, I have very special guests, serial entrepreneurs, author of the book “Lifestyle Builders”, speakers and consultants, Tom and Ariana Sylvester, to talk about building an ideal lifestyle through entrepreneurship.

YouTube is an excellent platform for musicians to consider creating free music education content to build an audience.

Especially if your music niche involves showing someone how to play an instrument or learn software, video is a great way to deliver value to your audience.

But how do you start, grow and monetize a YouTube channel? How do you start getting subscribers and musicians to view your videos?

To answer those questions I have special guest, composer, pianists, saxophonist and YouTuber, Jeff Schneider on the show to help us out.

Jeff makes a full-time living off of his online music education business, and the main way he fuels his business and builds his audience is through YouTube.

If you want to learn how to utilize YouTube to build an income online through your musical talent, this is a must listen.

In this episode:

1. How Jeff Schneider started his YouTube channel. 2. How Jeff makes money with YouTube (revenue streams) 3. How Jeff uses his videos to build his mailing list and sell his products. 4. What gear you need to get started making videos on YouTube. 5. Jeff’s top tips for a musician wanting to grow their YouTube channel.

I think one of the biggest takeaways was how Jeff utilizes multiple different revenue streams to drive income into his business. And while YouTube is his main content delivery platform, his website still serves as his home base.

Another big takeaway is it’s not about the numbers. You don’t need to have a million subscribers on YouTube to be successful. You just need to have a small tribe of super fan music students who love your content and want to engage in everything you do.

Let me know in the comments:

What ways are you going to monetize your YouTube channel or one you are going to start?

Passive Income Musician - Episode 09: How to Know Which Music Products Your Fans Will Buy
play

12/24/18 • 25 min

Welcome to episode 9 of the Passive Income Musician Podcast! If you want to become a passive income musician, you ultimately need to offer products to your target music students. But what you don’t want to do is spend lots of time and energy, and possibly money, on making products they won’t buy. How do you know which products to offer? That’s what I answer in this episode.

One thing that I really try to drive home on this podcast is that as musicians we need to start thinking like business people.

We have to channel that creativity that we possess as musical beings and start getting creative about how to make money teaching music online.

We need to identify our ideal music student and then create great content for them on a regular basis to build our audience. But at the end of the day, we cannot build a business unless we have something to sell to our audience.

That’s why whether you are at the very beginning stages of becoming a passive income musician, or have already started your journey, you need to be thinking about what products you can offer your fans.

But the most important question to ask is: what products do my fans need and will ultimately buy?

You could spend months creating or marketing a product, but if it’s not the right product for your music audience, you may have wasted a ton of your time.

So how do you know which products your online music students will buy from you? That’s exactly what I will help you answer in this episode.

In this episode:

1. The two most important questions you need to ask first. 2. How to review your top performing content to help identify your product topic. 3. Identify re-occurring questions or comments you get from your audience. 4. Sending surveys to your mailing list to validate products or ideas. 5. How to know what kind of product delivery to choose from.

Validating your ideas and products is a crucial step in the product creating process. I never start building a product until I have used several of these methods to verify I have a winner.

This doesn’t mean everything will be perfect. For example, you might have the right product but failed to launch it properly. That’s all something we will be talking about in future episodes, so make sure you are subscribed!

But if you take action on some of these, I guarantee you will know your audience better, and what products they need.

What kinds of products do you think will best serve your audience of music students?

Welcome to episode 5 of the Passive Income Musician Podcast! The most important thing you can do if you want to create a business around teaching music online is to build a mailing list. Ultimately, this is going to be the most powerful selling machine you own. I teach you how to get people on your mailing list, and some specific strategies to implement.

At the top of this episode, I tell a story about when I first realized how important building a mailing list was for my online jazz education business.

The guy who built an earlier version of my website had put a small opt-in form at the top for people to subscribe to my mailing list.

I didn’t know this was important (I didn’t know a lot of things at the time). But a year or so later, having never sent an email, I decided to look into how many subscribers I had.

I was shocked to find that over 800 people had signed up for my list. Wow! That was 800 musicians who gave me their email address just because they wanted to hear more from me.

Fast-forward to today and I can tell you with analytics to prove it, that my mailing list is how I make the majority of my income.

Learning how to build a mailing list of raving music student fans, delivering value, and selling them higher level offers is probably the most important thing I can teach you.

So in this episode, I go over the basics of building an email list with you. Email is not going to die out anytime soon and it’s still one of the most effective marketing mediums.

In this episode:

1. Why you should start an email list. 2. How to get subscribers onto your mailing list using lead magnets. 3. How to keep subscribers engaged on your mailing list. 4. How many subscribers I have on my list and some of my most important stats.

If I could go back and start all over again, the first thing I would do is start building a mailing list. Sometimes I wonder what my business would look like today if I had started sooner.

If you already have your online music education business started up, but haven’t started an email list, consider this your call to action!

Welcome to episode 60 of the Passive Income Musician Podcast! In today’s episode I talk about a powerful marketing tool, scarcity, that will help you increase your revenue on your online music courses. One challenge of selling online music courses to your prospective students is getting them to take action right after you’ve presented your offer to them.

So perhaps you brought them through some kind of sales funnel where you gave them some free value and now they’re taking a look at your online music course to see if it is right for them.

But they may leave the page and think, well, that’s something to think about. Maybe I’ll take action on that later. Or they may forget about it or they make up some excuse for why now is not the right time to enroll in your music course.

Well, in today’s episode, I’m going to be talking about a really powerful tool, the tool of scarcity, how to use it, different kinds of scarcity you can use in your different offers for your music courses, so you can get more students and make more money.

In this episode:

1. Scarcity 1: Sales and scarce sales 2. Scarcity 2: Open and closed door course 3. Scarcity 3: Scarcity of resources 4. Scarcity 4: Disapearing Bonuses
