Welcome to the episode about a Cardinal who almost became a king. Charles, Cardinal de Bourbon is the younger brother of our last subject, Antoine de Bourbon. These two brothers were rather different men. He was far less active than his older or younger brother, but his life had an equally big impact. I hope you'll join me for this episode.

Christmas Special, 2023
Passed
12/24/23 • 8 min
Welcome to my 2023 Christmas Special. This year I'll be covering a very special event that occurred on the 25th of December, 1066. This event, the crowing of William of Normandy as king of England, is a bit different than the event that I covered last year, the crowning of Charlemagne.
For long-time listeners I've left a little pronunciation outtake in. Let me know what you think of this and should I leave these in or is it too distracting. Please let me know on here or message me!

Welcome to the conclusion of the French Wars of Religion, or at least the conclusion for this series. This episode will see the escape of a trio of princes, the War of the Three Henrys, and the survival of one Henry. At the end of the day this is a story about surviving long enough to rule. I hope you'll join me.

This week you will get to head me read the entirety of Martin Luther's Ninety-Five Theses. I though it would be good to share the ideas that motivated a great deal of what the Wars of Religion in France encompass.
On a more personal note, I have taken a break from recording for the last few weeks due to the death of my father. I do discuss that at the start of this episode. I will be in the US for a few weeks, during this time I won't be able to record, but I will continue reading and writing. Thank you in advance for you understanding of this break. This whole thing has been a shock and I am struggling, but I have plenty of help and I will recover.

This week I'll be looking at Charles' middle years. It's interesting seeing his life divided up into three parts, mainly due to how long the reign of his brother was compared to the reigns of his nephews. I hope you'll join me for this episode.
