Location: Hampstead Heath
Hampstead, London
Guest: Michael Cumming
Michael Cumming talks about minds as bad as a bent hedge and working with Chris Morris, Stewart Lee, and many other comedy *stars*. Michael is a director and you'll find links to his various works below - like Brass Eye, Oxide Ghosts and King Rocker. Come and see me chat to Michael and Stew in Birmingham after the King Rocker screening on Jul 28. I might ask Michael if he'll direct my movie. Maybe.
Austen Tasseltine, Ted Maul and Moss Staples were sadly unavailable to contribute to this episode. Do enjoy with a pint of foaming nut brown ale.
Do review, subscribe and like. Namecheck as many trees as possible in your reviews and make them as surreal as possible because I WILL BE READING THEM OUT. I have a very nice prize to give out to the writer of the funniest review at the end of Season 1.

FRAGMENTS
Iain is the writer of so many good books like London Overground and maker of many films like Swandown.
FRAGMENTS
We walked in Woolwich, following our noses and avoiding the breeze and the London City Airport planes, and seeing the new Elizabeth Line
FRAGMENTS
Iain and I will return bearing fruit of some kind, I just know it

As always GRAZIE to Lucia Scazzocchio, Luke Jones (do listen to his brilliant podcast https://southgirlproductionmusic.com/category/podcast-production/), Rosie Wilby (https://www.instagram.com/breakupmonologues/?hl=en) and Mae-Li Evans for encouragement, production support and advice. There would be no podcast without these people. THANKS GUYS.
Park Date is about mixing the silly with the serious so do listen out for the original comedy we're slotting in between and after the interviews (which are hopefully pretty funny themselves).

Location: Kensington Gardens
Central London
Guest: William Hanson
It's time to speak to William Hanson about being more polite. You'll know him from Help I Sexted My Boss, which he presents with Radio 1's Jordan North. I know him from a wild week in New York a few years ago(!) And if you have the cash you can hire him as your own personal Henry Higgins.
We strolled round Kensington Gardens avoiding the wind (AGAIN) and dead birds being eaten (AGAIN) while we spied a royal helicopter and talked about using Monkeypox as an excuse to get out of a wedding. Hmmmm.
We recorded this episode back in summer before the sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

It's just me, Shazia Mirza and the bloody wind - as Shazia gets in a time machine to recall her brushes with fame on children's TV and then becoming a teacher and teaching Dizzee Rascal, plus we chat about her opening the Commonwealth Games and meeting The Queen. The Brummie comedian and writer joins me for a lovely Hyde Park stroll.

Guest: Lucy Bright
Some more blah blah show notes here. Do you read these? Tweet me the word PALINDROME @parkdatepodcast or @chrisbeanland to say a big YES and I'll come round and gift you a punnet of strawberries and a can of squirty cream. Even better, I'll put the squirty cream ON the strawberries, climb a ladder, smash a window and fling the whole soggy lot into your bedroom.
Anyway Lucy Bright is the heroine of this episode. A music industry veteran who now works on films with people like Chris Morris and Shane Meadows, she knows everything about movies and music.
Here us walk on the very spots where HARRY STYLES HARRY STYLES HARRY STYLES FOR SEO PURPOSES LOL walked when he shot a video at the Barbican recently. And hear a cocky squirrel do a runner with our pastries. Furry b*stard.

Guest: David Baldwin
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY
And Happy holidays wherever you are in the world
David Baldwin and I experienced something of A Christmas Carol car crash moment when we both found ourselves killed in surreal circumstances in the run up to Christmas. TEARS PLEASE. A film projector fell on his head and a bucket of prickly pears fell on mine.
But it's not all bad because we came back from the dead as two grumpy ghosts of Christmas past. We rose from our slumber in St Mary's Churchyard in Moseley on the eve of Christmas and decided to have a little haunted chat about this and that as we strolled betwixt trees and grave stones on a misty and frosty December night.
We reflected on Telly Savalas's incredible true life ghost story Then we went for a curry at Kebabish.
Enjoy the holidays and cuddle your loved ones. Hope you all had a great 2023. Park Date was very touched to be nominated twice for Best Comedy and Best Books podcast in the UK Independent Podcast Awards this year.
We'll be back with more cracking episodes in the New Year. Peace x

Location: Kings Heath Park
Birmingham, UK
Guest: Andy Howlett
It's time for another new episode of Park Date
Please welcome Andy Howlett. Now this is something a little different... we recorded this chat for my When Harry Met Telly podcast series about the infamous film Telly Salavas Looks At Birmingham. We'll still do something with that... but I thought in the meantime you might like to hear the full chat between Me and Andy.
Well we recorded in a park so I think it counts! It was in Kings Heath Park, south Birmingham - famous as the location of the BBC Gardener's World garden and where I used to smoke ciggies with my girlfriend Anna (hi Anna!) a lot of years ago.
Andy tells me about his amazing film Paradise Lost, about the brutalist library in Birmingham and the Paradise Circus complex that obsessed me too and features in my novel The Wall in The Head. We talk about films, the city, skating and public space.

Guest: David Ellis
It's time for another new episode of Park Date
Please welcome David Ellis. David and I chatted about what makes a liveable city and how transport clicks together, from biking to trains. We talked before I did a book talk in Leeds, which I always love to do.
And some uni memories came flooding back - I lived here for 3 years while I was studying.
Thanks to David for being a great book talk host. And thanks Jack and the brilliant Hyde Park Book Club where I've done two talks now. I will have another book out next year and will be back at HPBC I'm sure :)

S1E3 Is love funny? With Rosie Wilby
Park Date
07/12/22 • 50 min
Location: Norman Park
Bromley
Guest: Rosie Wilby
Welcome to Park Date!
On this episode of Park Date, Rosie Wilby and Rosie's dog Dolly chat with me about break-ups, monogamy, marriage, and model aeroplanes. Plus we spy horses and hear the sound of something like a village fete but which I later realised was actually the noise of the crowd at Bromley FC.
Rosie Wilby is an award-winning comedian, author and podcaster who has appeared many times on BBC Radio 4 programmes including Woman's Hour, Saturday Live and Four Thought. Her first book Is Monogamy Dead? was longlisted for the Polari First Book Prize and followed a trilogy of solo shows investigating the psychology of love and relationships. Her new book The Breakup Monologues is based on her acclaimed podcast of the same name and is published globally by Bloomsbury. She is on Twitter @rosiewilby and Instagram @breakupmonologues
Do listen to Rosie's podcast The Break Up Monologues and buy the book too.
As ever a huge thank you to Lucia Scazzocchio, Luke Jones (do listen to his brilliant podcast https://southgirlproductionmusic.com/category/podcast-production/), Rosie (https://www.instagram.com/breakupmonologues/?hl=en) and Mae-Li Evans for encouragement, production support and advice. Special thanks to the ever wise and supportive Elena Ourani, who might enjoy this one too. Cheers Elena!
