01/25/24 • 21 min
Do you have big goals and dreams to help you live the life you want to live?
Do you also have a sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you try to think about STARTING the changes you want to see in your life?
OOOR do you see yourself thinking about starting these things and then your brain goes: Nu-huh. Not today...
If your'e in one of those camps, lets talk about your avoidance issue. As always, the first step to addressing this is to actually understand what you're avoiding, and the actions you're taking when you're actively avoiding a task, a thing, or a person. Then: here's the magic sauce: What FEELINGS are you experiencing when you notice your avoidance behaviors? We dive into these things in this episode, and I give you the three most common emotions and actions that may cue you into your avoidance patterns, all so that you can take that first step: Know when you're avoiding.
If this episode gives you that funny feeling in the pit of your stomach and your brain is saying turn away! Turn it off! Then my friend, you're in the right place.
As always, I'm here to help,
--Dr. Pan Zhang,
Your Chronic Pain Coach.

Are You Ready?

Are you someone who finds it hard to stick with new routines to help you with your chronic pain?
You find yourself diving deep into a new diet, exercise program, or supplement routine, only to find reasons that this doesn't work for you after a few weeks?
When this happens over and over again, you may feel like you're met with failure with all the activities that you may try, and this story builds in your head: "Nothing can help me. I'm going to be in pain forever."
If this is you, LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE.
For the questions I ask in the episode: Use this as a guide for self exploration and self understanding. Don't judge yourself, but whatever answers bubble up to the surface, let yourself embrace them for what they are and for you to be able to see and feel the stories that you've been consciously and unconsciously telling yourself.
Here they are:
What was the last thing you tried to help with your pain?
How long did you stick with the program?
What were your biggest limitations or Barriers to sticking with the program?
Are these limitations or barriers that you have control over?
If you do, did you change your limitations or barriers?
Why and why not?
Why??
Why??
Did it work?
If it did: what did you like about it? — and are you still doing it?
If it did not work?
WHY didn’t it work?
If you “just didn’t like it”what didn’t you like about it?
Why?
Why?
What feelings and thoughts came up when you did the program?
If the opportunity came along that guaranteed that you could achieve your result, but you had to commit fully to it, for an undetermined amount of time, would you do it?
Why? Why not?
Why?
Why?

Have you ever been on the receiving end of the "Do Better" lecture? This lecture usually sounds like: Exercise more, sleep better, eat healthier. If you have, have you left that doctor appointment feeling inspired and hopeful...or Frustrated and angry?
Likely the latter, right?
Have you thought:
If I could, I would!
Or something along the lines of:
What a crock of Sh*t; I've tried that before and it didn't help.
Or even:
They didn't even listen to me. If they did, they would know that I can't or don't know how to do any of those things?
If that's you, I see you, friend.
And this Podcast is for you. With love, of course.
