I am excited to introduce to you Bibi of Bibi Photography Studio; she is an incredible St. Louis-based photographer, and a dear friend of mine!

The Own Your Voice Podcast was designed to highlight game-changing entrepreneurs and creative artists, have candid conversations about the business world, and inspire others with true stories of how business owners are authentically impacting the world around them. Wow...did Bibi deliver!

Today, not only will we get to share Bibi's creative work, we also started this incredibly rich conversation about the importance of cultivating your craft, and the place that authenticity has in creating powerful, impactful work. So many of us think of authenticity as the new trendy word, but after today, we hope that you will be inspired to see it as SO much more. As the heart of our work, authenticity is what gives our work relatability, vulnerability, and a truly lasting impact.

Own Your Voice Podcast - From Lion King To London Recording Artist - with Khaya Maseko
play

07/20/20 • 42 min

Welcome to Own Your Voice!

On today's episode, I had the opportunity to interview Khaya Maseko, an incredible European actor and entertainer! He first made his mark in the musical theater world, which began at the South African National Children’s Theatre. After winning a Naledi Award for Best Newcomer, he joined Disney’s "The Lion King" as cover Simba and part of the ensemble, which took him to Hong Kong, Switzerland and across the UK!

In late 2016, he made the decision to pivot his music career and focus on his journey as a solo artist - a decision he made after starting a job as a singer and pianist at the Piano Works in Farringdon. Soon after, he began work on his first EP entitled “Better Late Than Never”.

Khaya is also a part time composer and has composed dance pieces for Hong Kong's Fringe festival and The Place’s “Resolution” Dance festival.

So you have the PERFECT idea for your first single - how exciting! Do you know how to take that idea and turn it into something your audience will love?

Does the thought of turning that idea into lyrical rhyme schemes, the right song structure, and using chords other than I-IV-V-I have your head spinning? Or maybe you’ve already written the perfect lyrics, but you’re feeling stuck on how to make the music reflect YOUR unique style?

Well friends, I called in an expert in indie songwriting, just for you!

My dear friend and incredible STL musician, Mary Kate Walton, specializes in the unique and creative! I’ve always admired her ability to create interesting melodic lines, with upbeat and thought provoking lyrics, while staying true to her own style.

If you are looking to be inspired in your own writing, and want to create a style that reflects who YOU are, you won’t want to miss this episode!
