Oven Mitts Book Reviews

Rebecca Mitts, Rachel Mitts

The Mitts sisters review romance books in a unique way: Rachel reads them, and Rebecca listens to her retell them. Then, they assess if these spicy books are worth eating! Er...reading. Please take our reviews with a grain of salt, and a dash of pepper. What may not be our cup of tea, may very well be yours! We may have big opinions, but our respect for the authors is bigger. Check out their book pages, which is linked at the end of each episode!

Two sisters review spicy romance books. One reads them. The other...is excited to be included. We have summoned the first book in Sarah Spade's Sombra Demon series, "Mated to the Monster," just like Shannon summoned a huge, hot demon named Mal. Who hasn't accidentally summoned a demon from another plane when you think you're casting a love spell, only to find out they're your fated mate and have been waiting a thousand years to meet you?

Oven Mitts Book Reviews - After the Plague of Heartbreak, Can We Find Love?
play

06/15/24 • 60 min

Two sisters review spicy romance books. One reads them. The other...is excited to be included. We go through the rest of Imogen Keeper's After the Plague series and we are beginning to feel hope again! For once, though, Rachel had not finished the final book (Haven) when we recorded, so we leave it up to you to read the ending. Does our recipe holds true? Should we keep doing long series? Should Frankie have biblically accurate angel eyes?

Oven Mitts Book Reviews - This Apocalyptic Novella Leaves Us Heart Broken
play

06/08/24 • 40 min

Two sisters review spicy romance books. One reads them. The other...is excited to be included. We go through the first book, "Broken" in Imogen Keeper's After the Plague series and it hurts so bad we had to split this series into two episodes. The first book--a novella--starts in the midst of a plague that wipes out 99% of humanity. This one is heavy with grief, death, hopelessness, and finding purpose anyway. We initially reviewed the whole series in one go, but realized it needed longer in the oven, so we have split the review! Please enjoy this first course, and come back next Saturday when we present the rest of the series and give our recipe~!

Two sisters review spicy romance books. One reads them. The other...is excited to be included. Apologies on the weird posting schedule! Howling at the moon this spooky season with our first A/B/O (omegaverse) book: "They Love Me Knot" by Raelynn Rose. Not really about werewolves...but Reba always assumes they're werewolves. This is a super explicit one--as is expected with an omegaverse story--so listener beware!
