Otaku Melancholy - Winter 2022 Season Review
play

04/25/22 • 125 min

Introducing in this episode: rampant violence! The winter months may be cold but the anime is (supposedly) fire enough to keep warm, right? We break down and discuss (in this order!) Akebi's Sailor Uniform, Sasaki and Miyano, World's End Harem, Sabakui Bisco, Love of Kill, and My Dress Up Darling because those were the shows we said we were gonna watch and at least one of us watched all six of them! Honestly MAYBE KINDA SORTA just prepare not to like one of us as much as you did before especially if you like Akebi or even a certain MEGA WAIFU. You know the one. I'll even include time stamps so you can skip past the Love of Kill section cause you probably didn't watch that! Or maybe you don't want to hear about how good the yaoi show is, you coward. We'll try to keep doing seasonal episodes! Sorry for such a long long draught between this and the last seasonal review!
[Time Stamps for Shows]

Akebi's Sailor Uniform: 5:49
Sasaki and Miyano: 29:09
World's End Harem: 46:50
Sabakui Bisco: 1:03:11
Love of Kill: 1:17:30
My Dress Up Darling: 1:27:23

Otaku Melancholy - Fall 2020 Season Review (Or What We Watched Of It)
play

01/05/21 • 94 min

Just as a warning, we're both tremendously drained and have kind of low energy in this episode because life just threw both of us for a wicked suplex from the top rope. That's how suplexes work, right? Well, you can't have a good season every season, right? I mean, I'm not talking about the quality of the shows in this season but about the sheer few numbers we managed to get through this time. Life happens and you can't do a whole lot but we tried at least! We'll try to do better next season and watch at least three times as many shows next season, I swear! We're talking all about the latest and last shows that graced out screens in 2020 and they were a tremendously mixed bag. In this episode, we're covering the delightful treat of Wandering Witch: Journey of Elaina, the thrilling Talentless Nana, the hilarious Sleepy Princess in Demon Castle, the touching comedy The Day I Became a God, the lovey dovey doki doki Tonikaku Kawaii, and the simply badass Akudama Drive. Sorry for the rush in the opening! I was coming down off a caffeine fueled bender rage from the last record and kind of just didn't even care to introduce ourselves. Anyways! The final season of Attack on Titan is here and we're present to discuss all about it in our latest series: ATTALK ON TITAN or THE ATTALK ON TITANS if you like that better. I'm not picky but I like to give you guys options. We're going to talk all about each episode every Friday and put out our own ridiculous fan theories and speculations as anime only fans and also as fans of preposterous story telling because hey. That's fun, right? Maybe? MAPPA has taken the reigns from Studio Wit and are here to take us on one final journey outside of the walls to fight titans and possibly an even worse monsters: other humans. Will Eren and the gang be able to finally topple the harsh Marley empire and stop the creation of more Titans or are the walls of Paradis finally crumble? In this episode, we talk all about the hotness that is Reiner's new goatee, what Eren could possible be doing after 4 years, and the game Titanfall if only for a hot second. Join us in on the fun of seeing and discussing the final season of this classic of modern anime and reveling in the journey we've taken to get here. Otaku Melancholy - Spring 2023 Seasonal Anime Picks and Previews
play

04/03/23 • 93 min

We're back to our seasonal shenanigans so it's time to strap yourselves in and make a long commitment to what anime you're (probably) going to watch during the course of the season! Spring 2023 is looking kind of thick so the plan was to just talk about and read off the descriptions of (almost) every anime and break down the absolute why and what of each show and how that's going to affect our lives for the foreseeable twelve week future! I know it's been a minute since we've given seasonal anime a fair chance but I swear that we're 200% serious this time and I absolutely will not drop every single show in a fit of manic depression and frustration. I super promise it. Let us know what you're excited for and what you plan to watch too! Otaku Melancholy - Summer 2021 Seasonal Anime Preview - Part Two
play

08/16/21 • 116 min

Summer keeps beating us down with more and more heat but does any of that heat actually carry into summer anime? Man, I don't know. I'm only half awake right now cause I just remembered that I needed to change the description from that placeholder one I had. There is some mild heat. It's like the oven's eyes are on 3. Yes, it could still burn you but you wouldn't get like BAD burns or 1st degree burns or whatever. Actually I don't know how burns work. I thought it worked like murders but it might not. I could Google it but I'm just not feeling it because I know Google is going to pull up pictures of burns and then my morning is going to be mildly ruined. Anyways, we discuss our first thoughts and impressions on The Great Jahy will not be Defeated, Battle Game in 5 Seconds, The Itaden Deities Know Only Peace, The Duke of Death and His Maid, The Detective is Already Dead, Kageki Shoujo, Peach Boy Riverside, Girlfriend, Girlfriend, and Sonny Boy all in this one episode! Wow, it's like Christmas for anime podcasts but if your dad is a drunk and forgot to put the gifts under the tree when you woke up in the morning so you realized that Santa was fake way too early in life! Not that the scenario I'm describing ever happened to me. I'm just saying it's a very real thing for certain people. Like me. Man, I would hate to be an enjoyer of this podcast and someone who doesn't enjoy Attack on Titan because it seems like that's the only content you've been getting lately, huh? We missed two weeks so here's a breakdown of two episodes becasue COVID isn't a joke and neither are those northern snowstorms. We discuss the continuing adventures of those wild wacky Jaeger brothers as they go back in time to solve mysterious mysteries like "was it actually parental abuse that ruined my life" and "how much of a kill spree can you get with a royal family before you have to have a breakdown"! We explain the many wild wacky wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff of "Memories of the Future" and joke around about AoT spoilers. Sorry for the delay! We'll try not to do it again! Just don't leave me. It's so lonely in the show notes. I haven't seen another human in ages. Does anyone actually read this far really? I never do in podcasts. A lot of it is just aimless fluff, you know? Otaku Melancholy - Are Light Novels Literature?
play

11/06/22 • 70 min

It's a trashed episode that was turned into a Patreon exclusive that's been turned into a regular episode again! It's a wonderful butterfly of a piece of podcast content! We couldn't record this week but we had to have something so here's the something! Light novels are an ever looming threat (I think) to anime and must be treated with respect and dignity and sincere thoughtful consideration but it's just so hard when you're trying to read a book that is titled something like" The Results From When I Time Leaped to My Second Year of High School and Confessed to the Teacher I Liked at the Time", you know? We (and by we I mean me, Matt) break down literature and if light novels are literature! The answer will not shock you but we have to have dramatic tension for the sake of content, you know.
