Oppo Reno 7 and 7 Pro review
02/04/22 • 38 min
Oppo’s flagship smartphones for 2022 are here. But are they any good?
Gadgets 360 deputy reviews editor Roydon Cerejo and senior reviewer Aditya Shenoy join host Akhil Arora to talk about the Reno 7 and 7 Pro 5G.
We discuss the role reversal that’s going on in the design space — Oppo has given the Reno 6 design to 7 Pro, and vice versa — the new SoC that’s more marketing than features, and Oppo’s love for the AI buzzword.
Read: Oppo Reno 7 first impressions: a lukewarm upgrade
Along the way, we touch upon the (better) alternatives to the Reno 7 and 7 Pro, and wonder why Oppo has reached a stage in India where it doesn’t seem to have its heart in the race.

5G in India: everything you need to know
When will 5G come to India? And what should I expect?
COAI director general Lt. Gen. Dr. S.P. Kochhar and Deloitte India telecom sector leader Peeyush Vaish join Gadgets 360 reviews editor Jamshed Avari and host Akhil Arora to offer their expert insight.
Expect an initial rollout by August 2022, Kochhar says, though it won’t be at the same time for everyone. After all, India needs 8 lakh new towers for 5G, in addition to 1.5 lakh we have today. Moreover, the approach must be different for rural vs urban areas.
Along the way, we delve into how 5G is a lot more than an upgrade to 4G. It allows for dozens of B2B applications (revenue for operators), and new government rules afford more freedom with B2C applications.
5G is set to change cars, gaming, weapon systems, telemedicine, and the Indian Railways. Fire up the episode to discover why. What you pay hence will depend on what you want out of 5G.
Beyond the obvious B2B and B2C, there are a lot of acronyms in this episode. Here’s a quick guide to the most used ones:
- COAI = Cellular Operators Association of India
- DoT = Department of Telecommunications
- TRAI = Telecom Regulatory Authority of India
- mmWave = millimeter wave spectrum (30 GHz to 300 GHz, between microwave and infrared waves)
- eNB = eNodeB, type of radio base station
- ARPU = average revenue per user
- OTT = over-the-top (streaming services such as Netflix and Disney+ Hotstar)
- TSP = telecommunications service provider (such as Jio and Airtel)

Samsung Galaxy S22 and Tab S8 series
They are here — Samsung has announced its flagship phones and tablets for 2022. And they are synchronising, with both the S22 and Tab S8 series now sporting a base model, a Plus, and an Ultra.
Gadgets 360 deputy reviews editor Roydon Cerejo and senior reviewer Aditya Shenoy join host Akhil Arora to talk about the Galaxy S22 and Tab S8 series.
We discuss why the Galaxy S22 Ultra is more like a Note and doesn’t belong in the S22 family, how it improves upon the S21 Ultra and iPhone 13 Pro, and what might happen to its predecessor.
We delve into the level of changes Samsung has reserved for the Galaxy S22 and S22+, how we feel about Samsung’s new promises on Android updates, and whether the Tab S8 Ultra can go up against the iPad Pro.
