Opera - We love singing
Katia Arellano / Ricardo Ramirez
Music, and more particularly singing is always with us. A certain day we may find ourselves moody and with a melody from La forza del destino playing over and over again in our head. Or maybe we feel like a superhero as we've doing great at work and then we feel like Calaf solving the 3 riddles that Turandot has proposed. First, we would like to build a place where we can talk about our passion for singing in a positive way. There is already too much of those toxic places where we criticize endlessly the minimum error of a given singer. We need more places where we can be respectful and still express our differences, as art is perception and no one perceives art equally to one another. Our second proposal is to come and share, both Katia and I are pretty sure there are a million questions you have always asked yourself about singing and as singers are sometimes not the most approachable people, well we hope can answers some of those questions!!

Dissecting... Con te partirò
Opera - We love singing
12/04/24 • 64 min
In this season we are reviewing the most popular arias and songs of all times. Who doesn't know this piece of music that Andrea Bocelli made very famous in the 1990s?
This song has been part of the programs for tenors and sopranos across the globe since then. In this particular case, there was a polemic on whether this should be part of the season, which was resolved by a voting of our subscribers. This is the result of such voting.
In this season we talk about the author, and we analyze the aria from a technical vocal point of view as well as the interpretation based on the situation the character is going through.
This was a live session recording that premiered first on Youtube, subject to all technical challenges that this poses. So we beg your understanding on the troubles you may find.

Maria Callas Centennial - time travelling to 1950 Mexico City: The Expectation
Opera - We love singing
05/13/24 • 43 min
For this trip we need to put apart many things that we know now. We are travelling to a time where Maria Callas whas Meneghini Callas, she was not La Divina. She was not as famous as she came to be years later. We have no mobile telephones, meaning there is no way to learn immediately news from all other places almost at the time they are happening. This program is built with a number of sources to provide a bigger picture of what was actually happening back then.
This program, this first travel in time is: The expectation

The singer's voice evolution and that of his public - Part 2
Opera - We love singing
05/13/22 • 36 min
An opera lover may have realized that the voice of his favorite singer sounds differently depending on the decade he recorded a given role. His voice may have been brighter when he was young, voice may have been very unstable as well, maybe his roles were not believable. As years passed by, he realized his singer had lost that brightness in his voice but now has gained in the stability of his voice and has several roles where he is at his prime. The last phase of a singer’s voice is a very hard both for the listener and the singer himself. Most of his attributes are now gone, now you can barely hear me even if sitting at the front seat and recall you could hear him even anywhere in the concert room some 15 years ago. How do both the listener and the singer face all the stages in the artistic and vocal evolution of the singer? How do we make the most of all those stages to keep the best in our hearts and memories?

Myths, facts and anecdotes Part 1
Opera - We love singing
04/15/22 • 31 min
Many books have been written and certainly there are many more to come that share funny anecdotes, quarrels, plots, and myths around the world of opera singing.
Is it true that a soprano can shatter a cup of glass with a high note? This very unlikely event is still believed by many, just to provide an example of how unfamiliar people are with singing and even more with science itself. People like reading about a singer who is cancelling a presentation because of a very unfortunate discussion with the theatre director, for instance. How does it add to art? Certainly nothing but gossiping is very well spread out. And how about the fact that a bad singing technique has devastated the voice of so many singers.
Of all those examples and many more we will have our weekly friendly conversation.
