166 - My Ex Did *WHAT* in Marbella? (Why We Accept Awful Behavior)

OPENHOUSE with Louise Rumball and leading therapists

play

07/22/24 • 53 min

Well, this story is kinda crazy. And what's even crazier? Sometimes we keep bad behavior hidden, secret, and behind closed doors, and it's only when we start to talk about it that we can finally admit that IT WAS NOT OKAY.

This week, Louise shares a wild story about her ex and *THAT* thing he did in Marbella. She explores why we accept bad behavior, why we justify it as love, and how, once we start healing, we start to see it for what it truly is—unacceptable. Louise chats through the crazy story and its connection to:

  • Our childhood.
  • Our nervous system.
  • Familial patterns (and how these don't always make sense).
  • Low self-esteem, self-respect, and self-worth.

And so much more!

Join us in this deeply personal and vulnerable episode as Louise recounts heart-wrenching incidents from probably the most toxic relationship of her life, how it opened the doors to her healing journey, and what light at the end of the tunnel of a “passionate” (read: abusive) relationship looks like in the form of five hard-hitting lessons she learned in therapy.

🆘 Trigger Warning: This episode contains references to relationship abuse. 🆘

The entire catalog of BONUS PODCAST EPISODES will be added to the Daily Devotion Portal later this week

The holiday season can be both exhilarating and chaotic, both inside and outside of the bedroom. For many of us, we don’t talk about sex until it happens and when it’s the holiday season things can escalate. especially during the holiday season when alcohol or even drugs are part of the equation. The lack of open conversation about sex can lead to uncomfortable, stressful, or even distressing experiences, adding unnecessary strain to an already busy time of year.

This week, Louise and clinical sexologist Dr. Massimo Fontana, clinical psychologist and sexologist, jump into the importance of the RDBSMA conversation and the pair talk about how this conversation could lead to the best holiday sex yet.

Louise & Dr. Massimo dive into the 6 things you need to think about before having sex:

  • The ‘R' part of the conversation: getting the person you’re into to spill the beans on their *RELATIONSHIP* status
  • Next, 'D' - identify and talk about what YOU *DESIRE* and ask the other person about their desires too
  • Then the 'B' - discussing *BOUNDARIES* setting those much-needed limits for a smooth, safe ride
  • The ‘S’ SEXUAL STATUS- the importance of sexual health discussions before having sex
  • The ‘M’ part of the conversation takes us through the importance of the *MEANING* of the encounter before heading into
  • 'A’ - the importance of aftercare, what it is, what it means for you and how to implement this after the act, while agreeing it beforehand.

Please note, this episode may be sensitive to anyone who has gone through sexual assault or sexual trauma.

Love,

Louise & Dr. Massimo

Do you ever find yourself asking yourself quietly (or loudly) ‘is this it?. ‘Is this everything I was put on this Earth to experience?’. Or ‘when I just get X, Y or Z I’ll be happier?’ Alternatively, do you find yourself thinking you have most of the things you should have to be happy, but something is missing? Maybe you keep partying, on repeat, or relying on drugs or alcohol to get through the week? Do you want more but don’t know where to go next? If the answer is yes, you’re not alone.
Sobriety didn't revolutionize Dr. Elisa's life as she hoped it might. In fact, it was the moment when Vince Vaughn fired her from her position as his best-in-the-business, high-flying manager at United Talent Agency that the rest of her life truly began.

Next, the Universe guided her on a journey to becoming a Doctor in Depth Psychology with a focus on Neuroscience and Trauma, and then onto founding the first-ever Recovery Management Agency.
Today, Louise & Dr. Elisa discuss:

  • The feeling of 'I'll be happy when I just get there.'
  • The concepts of trauma, chronic trauma, and their connection to our physical body.
  • How the limbic system can't communicate with you in words; it can only communicate in feelings and energy.
  • The concept of 'wearing a mask' in day-to-day life and losing ourselves in this identity.
  • How we have a 'crisis of meaning’ and what to do next
  • What it means to have a spiritual practice (and how to start).
  • How rejection is always redirection, plus
  • How to help someone who is navigating addiction

Louise also shares her own personal stories around her own recent rejection, redirection and soul whispers- as well as her own journey with asking frequently ‘is this it?

Bek helps listeners understand:
✨ STIs are no big deal to some, and a huge deal to others - and WHY that is

✨ the concept of warmth vs. coldness, connection vs. isolation; and
✨ why she thinks that this is the least vulnerable thing about her
Louise also shares her thoughts and the pair discuss how important love, connection, care and warmth is in the space where cold, judgmental silence is the domineering emotion.

OPENHOUSE with Louise Rumball and leading therapists - 86 - DADDY ISSUES - Fantasy Bonding, Sex & The Alpha Male - The Father Wound Pt. 3
play

04/16/23 • 50 min

Are you ready to explore the tangled web of daddy issues, toxic masculinity, sexualization, and fantasy bonding?

Together, Louise and Stephanie explore all of this and more. They discuss the reasons that a Father Wound may drive us to date people who are emotionally unavailable or who breadcrumb us, as well as the allure of being the other woman or the "saviour" in a relationship. Louise & Stephanie also examine the alpha male, the wounded masculine and the toxic masculinity and how this can manifest in our relationships negatively (and why we're attracted to it!).

The conversation also delves into sexualization, hyper-sexualization, and performance in the bedroom. The hosts discuss the controversial topic of "dick slapping", why we do things we don't want to do, as well as the connection of sex to dopamine, ADHD, and neurodivergency.
Other recommended listening episodes to supplement exploring the Father Wound:

  • OPENHOUSE Episode 77 - DADDY ISSUES - Pt. 1 - the 'Emotionally Unavailable' Father
