Ep.179. We took the blu door studio on a road trip to Nashville, TN! This is the 2nd of 4 episodes from the #OTSroadShow. In today’s #OnTheStacks episode, Bill sat down with April Rose Gabrielli, a Billboard charting alternative-rock/pop singer, songwriter, producer & pianist. In 2020, she was diagnosed with epilepsy. The profound mental health effect of her diagnosis could’ve easily put an end to her music career, but instead, she used her diagnosis as a creative challenge to continue to pursue music, even writing songs and signing a publishing and record deal during one of her hospital stays. She developed aphasia, which caused her to speak backwards. She lost her short-term memory. Reading and speaking was very difficult for her. She had to relearn how to use computer programs and play piano. During our discussion of her incredible comeback story, we also talk about gender bias in the music industry, finding strength in adversity, and developing compassion for those with hidden illnesses.

We’ve all been there, right? Stuck in the proverbial grind, checking off the boxes of societal expectations. It was in these moments that Katrina Wallace dared to challenge the status quo, trading her familial obligations to carve out a path of her own. She reminds us of the strength that lies in unexpected support and the transformative power that genuine connections can bring.

Through our conversation, we explore the thought-provoking sphere of social media and its impact on our judgment of others. We dive into the very essence of it all – the art of networking, and how it forms the spine of relationship building. Katrina’s journey of finding her identity through community building enlightens us on the value of authentic conversations and meaningful relationships.

Her experience underscores the significance of stepping out of our self-imposed boundaries, daring to live authentically, and embracing the unfamiliar.

Join me in the blu door studio for today’s episode, as I converse with Major General John Gronski U.S. Army (Ret.), a leader who commanded a brigade of 5,000 Soldiers and Marines in Ramadi Iraq in 2005-2006, which, at that time is said to have been the bloodiest and most dangerous place in the world. General Gronski is now the CEO & Founder of Leader Grove, a leadership consulting firm, and he is also the author of two leadership books. This episode is filled with rich stories from his lifelong military career. We discuss in detail how to lead with vision and resilience, how to identify core values and apply them to your everyday life, and how to build and maintain relationships for long term success.

Join Bill in the blu door studio with Steve Mytych, the Rutgers University Assistant Wrestling Coach. He is a four-time NCAA Division I national qualifier at Drexel University, where he became the Dragons’ all-time leader in wins with 137 during his career from 2005-2010. He went on to represent the Lehigh Valley Athletic Club and Team USA on the Olympic Freestyle Circuit, where he was crowned the University Freestyle National Champion in 2011. In this episode, Steve takes me through his journey of successes and failures from his time competing on the mat, and how he is now using his experiences and skills to coach a division I collegiate wrestling program. As we dig deeper into his professional coaching career, we talk about the recent expansion of the Big Ten Conference, High Level Coaching, Recruiting, and how NIL deals affect student athletes. We also talk about the importance of staying fresh throughout the season, and how recovery plays into that. Steve shares his personal goals for the upcoming wrestling season, his never-quit attitude, and the importance of speaking your goals out loud. Whether you’re into wrestling or simply want to hear a story of grit and determination, my conversation with Steve is a must-listen.

Ep.180. We took the blu door studio on a road trip to Nashville, TN! In today’s #OnTheStacks episode, I sat down with Warren Steury, a Master Mason of the West Nashville Phoenix Freemasons’ Lodge #131. We take a deep dive into the myths and mysteries of Freemasonry, a fraternity often viewed through a distorted lens, despite its noble legacy dating back to the era of the Founding Fathers.

At 16 years old, he got caught up as a troubled youth, and subsequently, his parents enrolled him in a wilderness rehabilitation program, where he spent 83 days hiking and living off the land of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina with a small group of other juveniles and camp counselors, where he gained valuable life lessons.

Finally, we turned our spotlight on personal growth – the importance of having a code to live by. We talk about the role of daily reading and writing for personal development, and how these simple habits can bring clarity to one’s thoughts. We also talk about the evolution of content length, attention spans in the digital age, and how reading and writing remain our distinguishing traits as humans.
