One Game At A Time

Part two of our first episode discussing the links between mob football, Eton and Rugby schools, Cambridge and Sheffield Universities to our great Australian game.

Our seventh episode is all about player payments, free agency and the age-old debate around amateurism and professionalism. We discuss the social and economic climate of Melbourne during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century and how this had an impact on our great game.

Our fifth episode is all about our great men in white! We discuss the rules, the history and the sometimes dubious interpretations of our game with special guest umpire Michael O'Keeffe from the RDFL.

Three of Aussie rules' most unofficial experts get together to discuss the origins and evolution of the great Australian game. Starting with two English mobs' efforts to chase a severed head from one town square to another, our hosts explore the influence of the Eton and Rugby schools. They trace these colonial influences to the inception of the first codified rules in 1859 and then onwards to the game that exemplifies everything that's bloody grouse about footy!

Our sixth episode is all about the breakaway of the VFA to the VFL beginning in the year of 1897. We discuss fixturing, illegal payments and secret dealings between clubs, as well as the parallels this topic draws between the Rugby and Association games in England during the late nineteenth century.
