Message me!

As much as this time of year brings many joy and happiness, it is also a time of deep grief, loneliness, and sadness for so many. We just never know what a person is going through. So, as we go about our days in celebration this time of year, let's be mindful that the person sitting or standing beside us may not be having that same joyous experience. They may actually need a hug, a listening ear, or even space to be with themselves and connect with their pain. I want to take a moment to acknowledge them and the grief they may carry this time of year, and hold space for their very real experience. Thank you for joining me. Always.
Deep gratitude,
~Kissiah

On the Path with Kissiah Young - Do You Want to Be Cremated or Buried When You Die?
play

11/14/24 • 11 min

Message me!

Do you ever think about dying? Have you planned for when that inevitable time comes? As someone with a hospice and palliative care background, I know how difficult it is for many to even begin consider the possibility of dying. Taboo, still, the topic of death that we treat it as if a plague rather than the period at the end of our life's sentence. But what if we chose instead to meet it, to look out for it, and to create the room and space for its arrival? What if we chose to be prepared? Let's talk about it.
Thank you for joining me.
I am grateful.

On the Path with Kissiah Young - What Are You Creating in Your Life? What Reality Are You Cultivating?
play

11/07/24 • 14 min

Message me!

We are at a time of great dismay for many. Our thoughts and feelings may be overwhelming, and so much so, that we find ourselves being pulled deeper and deeper into the dark of the injustices, disbelief, and great many disappointments. The reality of this has me thinking about where we are placing our thoughts and energy. I can't help but wonder what it is we're creating and cultivating, and not just at this time now as we meet the outcome of a very layered election, but in our day to day, that which is beyond an election. Have you paused and given thought to what you might be creating and cultivating in your life?
Thank you for joining me once again.
With deep gratitude.

On the Path with Kissiah Young - The Road Is Good: Mothers, Daughters, and Grief
play

10/10/24 • 13 min

Message me!

As actor, Uzo Aduba releases her memoir, The Road Is Good, I am brought to reflect upon the grief that rests within me, a grief rooted in what does not exist between my mother and me: a connection.
What do we daughters do with this kind of grief? Where do we place the tender spots that went missing as a child, and continues now? How do we arrive within ourselves when the beauty of who we were as young daughters was not reflected back to us by our mothers? Even now?
Join me in my personal exploration of this.
As always, I appreciate your presence. Thank you for being here with me.
Deep gratitude,
~Kissiah

On the Path with Kissiah Young - What Is Your Relationship To Time?

What Is Your Relationship To Time?

On the Path with Kissiah Young

play

09/26/24 • 10 min

Message me!

I am often in thought or conversation about time and how it's the one thing we do not get back. It's something I contemplate regularly in my practice to stay alert. I appreciate time, and yet so often it isn't given the presence of its due. We easily take it for granted until the hour glass begins to fill and what is being poured thins to fade. What makes us feel like there isn't enough time, and why isn't there? How are we spending our time to the point where we run on fumes, exhausted by its seeming scarcity. That's the illusion. Time isn't scare, yet the amount of time we are gifted in a single human lifetime, is finite.
Today, we gather to reflect on time, what it means for us, how we're spending it, our mindset around time, and ultimately, our relationship to time. Thank you for your presence and support.
Deep gratitude,
~Kissiah

Message me!

We're not always gonna be on the path. That's impossible. The nature of being human has a connection to imperfection. So we seek instead to be as aligned as we are able by way of being alert, awake to ourselves and our lives. When we find ourselves off the path, or teetering about, the inquiry and exploration becomes about our practice for returning to truth. What do you do to bring yourself back to center, back into alignment, and back on the path?
Join me in today's episode where I openly share about my own recent teetering, and what that looked like with my partner.
As always, thank you for being here. I appreciate you.
Deep gratitude,
~Kissiah

On the Path with Kissiah Young - Give Your Grief Some Love

Give Your Grief Some Love

play

08/29/24 • 10 min

Message me!

Grief is such a little word of magnanimous power and presence. In the same way that it can bring us to collapse, it can crack our hearts so wide open that we see the beauty and gift of each moment. Grief is beautiful. It's devastating and heartbreaking, yes, and it is beautiful. I invite us to feel the fullness of our grief in the same way that we feel the fullness of what has arrived us at the door of our grief. Let us not abandon our deepest pain nor lose ourselves in the slippery slope of feeling like we cannot again wake to fresh and new life. We can. I believe there to be a path that leads us more in connection and closeness with our grief and less at odds or separation. For me, that path begins with sitting with my grief and turning my ear toward its expression.
This is an invitation.
Let's connect with our grief, so that we honor ourselves, our journeys, and our hearts. Let's give our grief some love.
Thank you for your presence with me today.
Deep gratitude,
~Kissiah

Are You Experiencing an Inner-ruption?

Message me!

Yes, you read that correctly. This episode is about the experience of having an inner-ruption. It's that dis-ease or angst or unsettled feeling or stress or insert the very thing that is disrupting your inner. It's often that feeling we feel when something has happened and remains unresolved. Perhaps we feel slighted, unseen, disrespected, disregarded, or there's an injustice of some kind, or a bit of gaslighting. It could even be that we ourselves have behaved in a way that we aren't proud of, and that has a hold on us. I know I've felt an inner-ruption before, recently in fact. I invite you to listen to a little bit of my experience.
As always, thank you for being here.
Deep gratitude,

Keeping Steady Is a Practice in Inner Faith

Message me!

In 2017, I quit my job and career in hospice care and moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I did this without any real planning, plan, or financial abundance. I felt moved, called, and so I left.
What you should know, is that the leaving was easy. Letting things go and walking away, felt normal to me for whatever reason. It was the return that exercised my truest, deepest, and realist inner strength. That rebuilding journey brought me face to face with faith and what it really looked like and meant for me. The kind of faith that one needs when they have little to no means or resources. I learned not only that I possessed faith, but how to practice it.
This episode shares a bit about my journey while also turning the reflection onto you and asking you the tough questions about your faith, and how you keep steady in your life.
Thank you for joining me, and as always, I welcome your thoughts.
Deep gratitude,
Kissiah

On the Path with Kissiah Young - Part Three of The Nine Contemplations: Death Will Come
play

01/02/25 • 15 min

Message me!

Death is inevitable and will arrive when it arrives. It needs neither invitation nor permission to enter when it knocks. Death has access to our lives whether we desire it or not, are prepared or not, and it requires nothing of us in order to reveal itself. The reality of this brings us to the question, what does it mean to prepare for death?
Death will indeed come, whether or not we are prepared.
Holding this thought in mind, I enter fully into the body of life.
