Oldish: Conversations on Aging in the 21st Century

Send us a text

In the latest episode of the Oldish Book Club co-hosts Dr Janet Price and Gregg Kaloust sit down with our friend Leslie Ross-Degnan to talk about The Little Old Lady Who Broke All the Rules by Swedish author Catharina Ingelman-Sunberg. It's the first in the League of Pensioners series. It's a rollicking heist novel about a group of Oldish Pensioners who break out of the retirement home into...prison! It's entertaining, insightful, and quintessentially Oldish.
Leslie Ross-Degnan enjoyed years in the classroom, loving picture books with young children. Now, in her oldish years, she spends time writing children’s poetry & picture books, as well as writing reviews of new picture books. You can find her reviews on Amazon, Good Reads, and Barnes and Noble sites. Leslie also enjoys reading adult literature. When she heard about our podcast, she asked us if we’d be interested in reviewing and discussing grown up books with ‘oldish' characters. We said we were. This is our 3rd book review and discussion with Leslie.

In this episode of Oldish, Dr. Janet Price and Gregg Kaloust discuss Martin Luther King's I Have A Dream speech on the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington. What did it mean to us then, and what does it mean to us, and our country, now? Has the dream come true?

Oldish: The Dinking Game -The Transition Zone

Send us a text

In this episode in the Oldish series The Dinking Game, co-hosts Dr Janet Price and Gregg Kaloust have a lively conversation about the Transition Zone in Pickleball, that area, sometimes called No Man's Land, between the back line and the non-volley zone (aka The Kitchen), and relate it to real life, and to Buddhist teacher Pema Chödrön's Groundlessness. Get into your ready position, and give it a listen!
Dr Janet gives a shoutout to Erin McHugh, author of the bestseller Pickleball is Life, with whom we had a fun conversation about pickleball and...life, last year. If you haven't yet, listen now.
Gregg is very excited about his new Tyrol Pickleball shoes. They are lightweight, sturdy, comfortable, and with their exclusive Vibram soles should last much longer on the outdoor courts than his old shoes did. You can check them out at Tyrol Pickleball. (note, if you buy them after clicking on this link Oldish gets a small commission to help offset our costs of production).
