Oilersnation Radio - A tough opening game for the Edmonton Oilers
play

10/11/24 • 55 min

The Edmonton Oilers season began on Wednesday and it's safe to say it went terribly. After losing 6-0 to the Winnipeg Jets, the Oilersnation Radio gang (Tyler, Liam, Rick and Dan) took a look back at what went wrong for the Copper and Blue in that home opener. That then bled into today's delicious debate: What concerned you the most about that opening loss?

From there, they chatted a little about the news that Raphael Lavoie was claimed by the Vegas Golden Knights. The Lavoie saga has gone on all week with the former second round pick going on waivers three times. The guys expressed their disappointment that yet another prospect goes at the door without much value coming back.

It was time for Ask The Idiots which is a segment you can take part in by sending us your questions on X. They started with a couple of Oilers questions by then pivoted to more Thanksgiving themed submissions. Finally, it was time for Hot and Cold performers before the boys headed into the long weekend.

Oilersnation Radio - Previewing the Oilers vs. Canucks
play

05/07/24 • 60 min

Oilersnation Radio, your favourite twice-weekly podcast, is back with a fresh episode to spice up your week and talk all. Get ready for some riveting Oilers discussions and debates.

Kicking off the Tuesday episode of ONR, we got started with a delicious debate about whether or not anything concerns us about the upcoming series against the Vancouver Canucks. Given that most pundits have the Oilers winning this series, should we be concerned about the Canucks rolling into the series with an underdog mentality?

Sticking with the Oilers, we looked at some of the lineup details that came out this morning. Unfortunately for Edmonton, it looks like Adam Henrique will miss Game 1 with a lower-body injury sustained lane in Round 1, meaning someone else will need to step up in his place.

Changing gears, we looked around the NHL at some of the other series that are already underway and whether there's a matchup outside of our own that we're excited about. We also looked back at Round 1 and discussed whether or not we were disappointed that the Golden Knights got bumped, eliminating any possibility of exacting revenge.

Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with another round of Dan's 3v3 game before wrapping up the podcast with a few score predictions ahead of tomorrow's Game 1 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Oilersnation Radio - Counting down to the Stanley Cup Final
play

06/04/24 • 74 min

We're only days away from the Oilers playing in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 18 years, which meant there was plenty to talk about on the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio. From expectations to being the underdogs once again, today's fresh episode of ONR was a lot of fun to record, and we hope you enjoy listening.

The Tuesday podcast kicked off with a delicious debate on the pivotal moments of the Western Conference Final. The heart-stopping comeback in Game 4 and the electrifying awakening of the power play in Game 5 were among the highlights that turned the series on its head.

Changing gears, the guys looked at some of the future bets for the Stanley Cup Final and tried to decide where to put our money for the SCF. Tyler offered up a handful of bets on everything from the series outcome to who would have the most goals/points, and it was up to the fellas to decide whether that was good value or not.

Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday edition of ONR with another round of Dan's 3v3 game, which was all about tourist locations in and around Florida. Finally, the boys brought Woz in for another edition of Can You Clear That Up For Me, which was mostly centred on how this Cup run differs (if at all) from what happened back in 2006.

It's the Friday afternoon after a big Oilers win, which meant the vibes were excellent on the second episode of Oilersnation Radio of the week.

We kicked off Friday's episode of the podcast with a delicious debate about the Oilers' power play and, specifically, whether or not Kris Knoblauch should make any changes to the PP1. Even though the power play is struggling so far, it's also very early to make changes to a line that has been one of the best the league has ever seen in years.

Looking back at the last two games, we dove into the Oilers' first two victories of the year and how the win over Philly prevented Tyler from having to eat cat food again. Yet, despite talking about the game for 30 seconds, the conversation quickly fell off the rails with a way-too-early debate about Warren Foegele vs. Viktor Arvidsson.

Changing gears entirely, we looked at the Oilers' willingness to drop the mitts over the last two games and how those fights sparked the team in a very real way. That's not to suggest that fighting is the key to success in the NHL — no one is saying that — but it's hard to ignore the impact those three scraps had on the team at the moment.

Returning to last night's win over the Predators, we spent a few minutes talking about Nashville's struggles to start their season. Does it make sense that a team with so many new players should be afforded some extra time for everyone to get comfortable, or are they simply underperforming where they should be?

Finally, we wrapped the podcast up by answering your questions with another round of Ask the Idiots before diving into Hot and Cold Performers to recap everything that's happened over the last seven days. Needless to say, this week's episode had plenty of hockey talk that we've had in a while, and it feels good to know that the NHL is back in full swing.

Oilersnation Radio - The Edmonton Oilers are so back
play

12/13/24 • 65 min

The Edmonton Oilers have steamrolled through their competition over the last week, which meant there was plenty to discuss on the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio.

The guys kicked off the Friday episode of the podcast with a delicious debate about whether Ryan Hartman should be suspended for his dirty hit on Evan Bouchard in Thursday's game against the Minnesota Wild. Given that Hartman has a history of being fined and suspended for dirty plays, the conversation was a little more split than you may think. After watching the video a handful of times, the guys' thoughts were all over the map as they tried to figure out what the right move was.

Changing gears, we looked back at last night's 7-1 win over the Minnesota Wild and how it was one of the most dominant performances the Oilers have had in quite some time. Not only was it a total beatdown, but to do it against one of the best teams in the league was a surprise that none of us saw coming. From Calvin Pickard playing lights out between the pipes to Leon Draisaitl taking over the game with a dominant performance, the Oilers got big performances from key players on their road to victory.

Given how the Oilers are playing right now, there are going to be some very interesting roster decisions to make as the team gets healthy. As an example, who comes out of the lineup when a guy like Viktor Arvidsson comes back? What about down the line when Evander Kane comes back? Needless to say, this is a very good problem for the team to have and one that we haven't really experienced before. When you're a strong hockey club like the Oilers are, the team has a chance to get even better and that's a fantastic to think about.

The Oilers find themselves down 2-1 in their series against the Vancouver Canucks, and that means the pressure is on for our boys to rebound tonight at Rogers Place.

We kicked off the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a delicious debate about the Oilers' goaltending, specifically whether giving Calvin Pickard the start in Game 4 was the right call. Given that Skinner has been the team's starter for the entire 2023-24 season, it is a curious decision for Kris Knoblauch to make in such a crucial playoff game.

Changing gears, we looked back at Game 3 and how that game should have been an Oilers win had it not been for the costly errors in their own zone and inability to get a save. Even though a lot of Oilers fans are pointing their finger at Stuart Skinner, we talked about the larger team issues that contributed to the loss rather than just singling out one guy.

Finally, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with another round of Dan's 3v3 game and Woz's signature segment 'Can You Clear That Up For Me' before wrapping up the podcast with a few score predictions ahead of tomorrow's Game 1 against the Vancouver Canucks.

Just because we're heading into the long weekend doesn't mean that we're not offering up our usual dose of Friday afternoon Oilers talk. This week, we're recapping the Oilers' big win over LA, Connor McDavid's Art Ross Trophy hunt, depth scoring, and more.

Kicking off the podcast, we started with a delicious debate about how Kris Knoblauch should dole out playing time down the stretch. Even though there's still plenty to play for right now, that may not necessarily be the case after the Oilers clinch a playoff spot. Would it make sense to sit some of the stars for a game or two if the team can lock in a second-place finish?

We also looked back at last night's win over the Los Angeles Kings and how that performance was one of the Oilers' best defensive efforts that we've seen in quite some time. Despite the Kings playing the trap, it was the Oilers that really didn't give up much of anything. Outside of their lone goal in the third period, the Kings struggled to get much done despite firing a ton of shots from the perimeter.

Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a handful of Ask the Idiots questions submitted by listeners, some betting talk for Bet99, and another round of Hot and Cold Performers before winding things down with some score predictions ahead of tomorrow's matchup with the Anaheim Ducks.

Oilersnation Radio - Breaking down the Oilers' Game 1 loss to the Kings
play

04/22/25 • 55 min

Tuesday afternoon means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been recorded, edited, and is set to massage your ear feelings. On this week's podcast, the guys discussed the Oilers' Game 1 loss, the special teams, penalty calls, and much more.

The guys kicked off the Tuesday episode of ONR with a discussion about Monday's loss to the Kings, and how it was incredibly frustrating to have the Oilers come back from being down 4-0 and lose before the game got to OT. Starting with the mess in their zone, the boys wondered why Edmonton seems to be a yard sale in their end when they were so good defensively in last year's run. The guys also discussed whether or not losing Game 1 has any effect on how confident everyone is about the Oilers' ability to still win the series.

Changing gears, the boys discussed potential lineup adjustments for Game 2 if Evander Kane can return to the lineup for Game 2. As you'll hear, the boys have a few different names circled to get swapped out for Kane. What will be most interesting to see is what Kris Knoblauch thinks is the most significant need relative to who's coming out. Would Knoblauch sacrifice a penalty killer like Mattias Janmark or Connor Brown for Kane? What about a guy like Jeff Skinner, who was on the ice for three goals against? Either way,

Finally, the boys wrapped up the Tuesday episode of Oilersnation Radio with a random collection of topics from around the NHL, including Lou Lamoriello's departure in New York, the implosion happening in Vancouver, coaches getting fired, and much more. Despite the Oilers' loss in Los Angeles, the boys' spirits were still high and looking ahead to a much better effort in Game 2 on Wednesday.

It's Friday afternoon, and that means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio has been edited and ready to massage your ear holes.

We started the Friday episode of ONR with a delicious debate about what we expect the Oilers to do in Game 5 to avoid the same result they got in the same situation in Vancouver. Given that the team played as poorly as they did in this exact spot in the last round, there are plenty of lessons the Oilers may have learned, and we tried to outline as many of those spots as possible.

Changing gears, we looked at Kris Knoblauch's lineup decisions this past week ahead of Game 4. A lot of Oilers fans questioned putting Corey Perry and Philip Broberg into that game, but it was another set of moves by Knobby that really turned out well. Regardless of what decision he makes, there will be plenty of pressure on either guy to come through with a clutch performance.

Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Ask the Idiots and Hot and Cold Performers before winding down with some score predictions ahead of Game 5 against the Dallas Stars. As always, the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio was a blast to record, and we all hope you had just as much fun listening as we did making it.

It's Friday afternoon, and that means we've got a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio all set, edited, and ready to take you into the weekend. This week, we spoke about the Oilers' up-and-down run since the all-star break, previewed tomorrow's game against the Stars, and dove into more silly szn rumours that are circling our favourite hockey team.

Kicking off the podcast, we got started with a debate about the Oilers' bottom six and, specifically, whether any of those players should be replaced by a forward from the Bakersfield Condors. Given the fact that there are so many players not scoring right now, it's fair to wonder whether these most recent changes are going to give the team their best chance to win or not.

We then looked at last night's 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues and how that game was one of the worst this team has played since October. From their parade to the penalty box to their inability to limit mistakes, the Oilers struggled with the basics of their game, and the result was a total disaster. For a team that's supposed to be a Stanley Cup contender, games like last night's simply cannot happen.

Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of ONR with another round of Kennedy's Quote Game before wrapping up the week with some best and worsts from the past seven days with another round of Hot and Cold Performers.
