Holy shit! A movie star took the time to talk to me! Not just any movie star! A beautiful, young, charming new talent who caught the attention of Steven Spielberg who cast her as Maria in his upcoming adaption of West Side Story! It was a true pleasure having Rachel on the show. She reminded me that we’d actually met before at the Broadway Flea Market when she was 14 years old! On today’s episode we talk about Rachel’s experience working with Steven Spielberg and Stephen Sondheim. We also play MASH to determine each other’s future. Not only that, we discuss the importance of being kind in this industry and I express my distaste for Lea Michele’s famously bad attitude. Lots of ground gets covered on this episode so TUNE THE HECK IN and turn it! Rachel Zegler is in. the. HOUSE! Don’t forget to rate and subscribe!

Keep up with Rachel and all the exciting things going on in her life on Twitter/Instagram @RachelZegler You can also find her on youtube and TikTok!

Ladies and gentleman! Lilli F***ing Cooper is in the house! HOW EXCITING! Sure, it’s a thrill because she’s a Tony nominee for her work in Tootsie the musical on Broadway, but did you know that she loves Dexter’s Laboratory? I’m excited AF she’s here! Sure she played Sandy Squirrel in Spongebob on Broadway, but did you know that she was CYBER BULLIED in middle school??? Jesus! We all know that she was in the original cast of Spring Awakening, but did any of you know that she played multiple roles in the workshop leading to it’s off-Broadway production? WELL TUNE THE HELL IN! In this episode of Now We’re Talking with me, Drew Gasparini, Lilli and I talk about it all! From her legendary father Chuck Cooper, to her unofficial bad ass mother Tisa! We also talk about being a 90’s kid, starting in show business at a young age, being nominated for a Tony, and I finally do something the whole world’s been wanting to do... start beef with Jonathan Groff! There’s no WAY he’s that nice all the time! Enjoy this free form convo with me and Lilli Cooper!

It’s pretty clear that Kathryn Gallagher has an amazing start to an amazing career from appearing in the Broadway revival of Spring Awakening to her work on the Netflix thriller You. But did you know that she comes from a long line of artists and bacteriologist (whatever the hell that means!)? We are alllll excited that her work in Jagged Little Pill has earned her both Tony and Grammy nominations, but did you know that her dad Peter Gallagher was full on DISSED by Bob Fosse? I’m thrilled I was able to trick Kathryn into coming onto the podcast to talk about life, what it’s like getting teased in school, letting our freak flags fly, and SO much more. This was an extra joy for me because I have an unrelenting crush on her. Enjoy our little chat!

KATHRYN GALLAGHER has been seen on Broadway in the revival of Spring Awakening, and as Bella in Jagged Little Pill for which she received a Tony nomination. She has appeared in the Netflix series YOU and her original music can be found on Spotify and beyond! Follow Kathryn on Twitter @KathrynG and on Instagram @kathryngallagher

Joe Iconis is huggable. Joe Iconis is intimidating. Joe Iconis has amazing talent. Joe Iconis also has amazing hair. He is a darling of musical theatre, and someone I always catch myself rooting for. We ALL know that Joe Iconis is a staple in NYC with his infamous concerts featuring the “Joe Iconis Family” but did you know that Joe Iconis has a deep love for all things The Muppets? We all know Joe for his Tony nominated work for his musical adaptation of BE MORE CHILL, but did you know this show almost didn’t have a fighting chance to blow up into the phenomenon it did? The man is a legend and ALSO, a myth and it was a joy having him on the show to not only discuss life during COVID-19, hear about his amazing career and play some silly games, but he also gives some truly terrific advice to all future generations of theatre workers. So TUNE IN, and turn it the hell up! Joe Iconis is in the house, and he is spitting truth all up in this pod! For more on Joe make sure to follow him on his socials @MrJoeIconis!

We alllllll love Alex Brightman for the work he’s done in the industry. And yes, we toooootally get that he’s a two-time Tony Nominee for his roles in School of Rock and Beetlejuice on Broadway. But I bet you didn’t know where he grew up, or that his parents had to sit him down for some VERY blunt advice at a young age. Of course we love Alex for his work leading up to his Tony nominations in shows like Matilda and Wicked, but did you know that Alex Brightman and I spent 3 days together traveling cross country by Amtrak?! Like, I KNOW we can’t get enough of Alex’s appearances on TV collaborating with the likes of John Mulaney and Richard Kind, but why don’t we ever talk about his obsession with gambling, or the band he was in in high school?! Thankfully I was able to coax my buddy Brighty onto the podcast so we could deep dive into our friendship, his childhood, his unflappable younger brother Jesse, the ill-fated SitCom(s) we wrote during our formidable years, and MUCH MORE!

Alex Brightman has been seen on Broadway in Glory Days, Wicked, Big Fish, Matilda , and has two Tony nominations for starring as the leads in School of Rock, and Beetlejuice.

As a writer Brightman is currently developing two new musicals with Drew Gasparini entitled The Whipping Boy and It's Kind of a Funny Story (based on the novels of the same name). Brightman made an appearance on Impractical Jokers and In October 2019, it was announced that Brightman will be joining the cast of the Billy Crystal helmed comedy film Here Today. We should all be angry at Antonio Cipriano. He’s handsome, successful, young, and has great hair. So let’s just get pissed at the guy! It was a wonderful time having Antonio on to chat about his Sicilian roots, his amazing work in the Tony nominated Jagged Little Pill, his upcoming projects, his dream of being drafted for the major leagues, and we even play a riveting game of F*** MARRY KILL. His answers might surprise you! Tune in! Just a couple Italians talking theatre. Follow Antonio on his socials @AntonioCip_

F. Michael Haynie is a nerd. The most beautiful nerd I know. He’s my best pal. The people love F. That’s why he has been seen in big fat shows like Wicked as Boq, and Frozen as Olaf, but did you know that he know he has an INSANE knowledge for the lore of the Super Mario Universe?!? I think it’s common knowledge by now that F originated the role of Augustus Gloop in Broadway’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, but did you know that he originally had dreams of being a band instructor?? I mean, I’d bet you knew all about his work in the “Carrie” revival or the original cast of “Dogfight” but did you know that he and Tony nominee used to sing in an a cappella group in college together? Well we dive into all of this AND MORE on this week’s episode with my good friend F. Michael Haynie! TUNE IN, WEIRDOS! This was a lot of fun. Aaaaaaaand this is F!

My heart filled up like a pinata when I sat down for this chat. Alex Wyse is a good friend, and sure, we love him for his theatre performances in shows such as off-Broadway's "Triassic Parq" and Broadway shows such as "Lysistrata Jones" and Deaf West's revival of "Spring Awakening" but I bet you'd never guess that his grandmother was responsible for some of today's most popular advertising slogans? We are all hip to the fact that Alex and Wes Taylor co-created and star in the ground-breaking, Emmy nominated comedy called "The Indoor Boys" but did you know that Andrew Kober was the Mr. Bumble to his Oliver back in Ohio??? How hilarious is that?!?! Not only is he an amazing writer, actor, and Tony nominated producer, he is a tremendous musician and singer and you can even here Alex sing my song "Right Here" from my album I COULD USE A DRINK! One thing I know for sure is that Alex is a multi-hyphenate bad ass who never stops! So tune in and turn it the hell up, Alex Wyse is in the house! Keep up with everything he has going on by following him on Twitter @alexwyse and Instagram @alexjwyse

NOW WE'RE TALKING with Drew Gasparini - Ep 35 - Caitlin Kinnunen & Ryan Bauer-Walsh: "Gay Metallica"
play

11/01/21 • 44 min

What lullabies did we listen to as kids? Do we remember how WEIRD the children’s stories we were read as kids were? Does Tony nominee indeed have a dog fighting ring in her basement? Will I ever finally get Jonathan Groff to pay attention to the nonsensical beef I’m trying to start with him? WHO KNOWS! But we talk about all of this and more on this week’s episode featuring guests Caitlin Kinnunen and performer/writer Ryan Bauer-Walsh. From our discussion about their upcoming project THE RAINBOW LULLABY to our heated exchange about whether we’d rather have fingers as nipples or nipples as fingers, it was a laugh a minute with these two. Tune in. RATE AND SUBSCRIBE! Just f***ing do it. I mean, it’s fine if you don’t, but like... just do it. For me. For me and my family. And YOUR family. HELL! We could all use the rate and subscribe!
