Rosemary likes to think she's not superficial, so she starts out talking about charitable gifts – but soon the façade is forgotten as we get into the meat of what we'd like to find under the tree this Christmas. It's very clear from this conversation that, as our Mum frequently tells us, we "don't need a thing!" but we'd like some nice things all the same. Please share: what's top of your Christmas list this year?

Not Without My Sister - 62 – That's IT! I Quit! I'm Movin' On
play

We're talking about handing in your notice in this brand new episode of Not Without My Sister, for which we have returned from our short hiatus! (It seemed fitting to make a comeback and talk about quitting...) So what are good reasons to leave a job? (And are there any bad?) Why do we all hate handing in our notice? And do our bosses ever truly care that we're moving on?

Not Without My Sister - 58 – Summer Jobbin' (Had Us a Blast)
play

09/07/21 • 39 min

Ah, another glorious walk down memory lane as we recount the summer jobs we had in our not-even-remotely-misspent youths (when you live in the country you really have to try to get into trouble): from potting teeny tiny saplings in teeny tiny pots to serving Sunday dinners to middle-aged golfers, we go deep into the cultural and personal ramifications of being put to work at far too young an age.

LOL, no we don't, we just talk about how much money we earned, the day one of us got fired from her part-time job in a jeans emporium and how the other one of us was given the keys to the school (but was not teacher's pet, she swears) over the summer months.

On this, the sixth episode of Not Without My Sister EVER, Beatrice talked about how she got to where she is now in her career as a fashion designer – and what she learned along the way! We're on our mini maternity leave until December, so thank you for bearing with us as we stroll down memory lane and give a little glimpse into what people get over on Patreon! Because we're still uploading NEW content there each and every Friday, so if you miss us terribly and wish to support us throughout this transition, head over there and sign up for €4.50/month: http://www.patreon.com/notwithoutmysister

Ever wanted a little more insight into Beatrice's career? Here's your opportunity to trace the route she took on her career in fashion design.Beatrice graduated from her joint course in History of Art and Fashion Design at NCAD in the very early 2000s. From there she's been almost all the way around the world, from Milan to Paris, New York to Dallas and finally (we hope!) ending up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She recounts her journey through the fashion world.

Things we mention:

  • Here's a piece on Marni from the Business of Fashion
  • An example of some of the high theatre Bea worked on at John Galliano (menswear AW 2008/2009)
  • One of Bea's proudest moments: her 'Stephanie' bag design worn by fashion royalty
  • er, MTV's "reality" TV show, The City

Not Without My Sister - 84 – What's it Like to be the Older Woman? WE SHOULD KNOW!
play

06/29/22 • 32 min

Age may not be anything other than a number, to paraphrase the late Aaliyah (perhaps a bad example as she married R Kelly when she was just 15 – he was 27), but it's often brought up as a reason a couple shouldn't be together, especially when the woman is the older one.

We're sitting down to hash out the whys and wherefores, speaking about our personal experiences being the cougars in our marriages, and our past history of dating (significantly) older men.

Let us know what you think – and if you have a horse in this race, please, we especially want to hear from you!

Please, do let me know if you'd like to hear anyone else we frequently mention guest on the pod, and fear not, Bea will be back on our Friday Patreon bonus episode – yours for just $5/month! http://patreon.com/notwithoutmysister

Once more (with feeling): if you haven't already, please leave us a five-star rating (and a review!) wherever you get your podcasts. It helps other people find us and helps push us up the charts, which is more important to us than it should be.

Not Without My Sister - 89 – Is There Any Such Thing as a Feminist TV Show, Anyway?
play

08/10/22 • 31 min

Virgin River Season 4 is out and we. are. riveted. Well... not exactly, but we're watching!

This truly is the show that has everything. Drug dealers! Child abduction! Traumatic brain injury! Stroke! A bar shooting! PTSD! Unrequited love! A hardworking single mom! A bereaved midwife! Ye Olde Renaissance Faire! A pilot having a heart attack while flying a small plane! Young love! Old love!

Believe it or not, none of the above is a spoiler for the fourth season of Virgin River, Netflix's bizarre mish mash of Saving Private Ryan, Hart of Dixie and Grey's Anatomy. Or something.

We have many, many thoughts.

Oh AND! We didn't get nominated for a THING in the Irish Podcast Awards! An outrage! A shock! An abomination!

However, you can still vote for us in the Listeners' Choice Awards, here. Please, please, please vote for us – and if you have more than one email address, please vote for us multiple times! You know how much we love validation, WE NEED THIS.

If you'd like MORE Not Without My Sister, check us out on Patreon.com/notwithoutmysister, where you'll get an extra bonus episode each week AND access to our regular episodes early and ad-free. We appreciate any and all support – it helps with production costs and encourages us to keep going.
