Nos Audietis - Big win means proper rotation!

02/22/25 • 52 min

We’re back with another episode of “What we learned this week w/Niko.” Jeremiah and Niko Moreno discuss the implications of Wedensday’s 3-1 win and how that allows the Sounders to rotate a bit more purposefully for Saturday. They also discuss Brian Schmetzer’s comments about the Nicolás Lodeiro situation.

MLS Armchair Analyst Matt Doyle returns for what will be a regular feature talking about the Western Conference. This week, he and Jeremiah play a little game of “Choose your own adventure” to discuss the Week 1 results. He’s a lot less high on the LA Galaxy than he used to be but still think the Sounders and LAFC are going to be near the top.

You can read Matt Doyle every week at MLSsoccer.com, watch his tactical videos on Bluesky and subscribe his new “Tactics Free Zone” newsletter.

Jeremiah and Aaron are back for their first “normal” show of the season and have quite a match to discuss. On one hand, the Sounders did a lot of really good stuff and even scored a couple of nice goals. On the other, a fully regrettable error cost them two points. Let’s dig in!

Jeremiah is once again joined by Niko Moreno as the Sounders get ready to face Real Salt Lake in their second league match of the season. Niko provides some analysis of Real Salt Lake’s early-season struggles and thinks this is a good opportunity for the Sounders to finally break their winless streak in Utah.

Perhaps more interestingly, Jeremiah and Niko discuss Pedro de la Vega’s performance against Antigua and specifically some of Brian Schmetzer’s comments after the game. Although he walked it back a bit on Friday, Schmetzer somewhat called our de la Vega for some possibly unnecessary flair that may have contributed to Antigua’s goal.

Niko also let us know about some drama surrounding Cruz Azul as the Sounders prepare for their next Concacaf Champions Cup opponent.

Nos Audietis - Pedro de la Vega is going to be a problem!
play

02/13/25 • 41 min

We’re back with another episode of ‘What we learned this week with Niko.’ There weren’t so much new learnings as there were lots of bolstering of previously held opinions. The biggest is that Pedro de la Vega looked really, really good. He had two goals in this game and helped create another. This is a player who seems to be looking to prove a point.

MLS Season Pass’ Taylor Twellman joined Jeremiah to talk about Jordan Morris’ future as a No. 9, the impressive work turned in by Brian Schmetzer, Yeimar’s Defensive Player of the Year candidacy and the Sounders’ chances of making a run to MLS Cup. You might be surprised to learn he’s pretty bullish almost across the board.

Nos Audietis - Leagues Cup Post-Group Stage Review
play

08/06/24 • 62 min

Since our last episode, the Sounders have completed both Leagues Cup group stage games - and it was a mixed bag to say the least. Despite leaving things late the Sounders looked comfortable against Minnesota United, but it was a different story against Necaxa as a promising start turned into a worst-case scenario of soft goals, little attacking threat, and potentially disastrous injuries.

Aaron and Mark discuss the ups and downs of the games against Minnesota United and Necaxa, what those performances mean in the larger context of the season, how some of the less frequently featured Sounders fared, and the outlook heading into the Round of 32 clash with the Galaxy on Thursday. They also discuss the rapidly approaching close of the transfer window, the Sounders roster spending habits, and the risk of slipping into mid-table mediocrity.

Nos Audietis - Where do we go from here?
play

07/24/24 • 55 min

We wanted a test and we got one. Unfortunately, it’s hard to escape the reality that hte Sounders failed it pretty badly, falling 3-0 to LAFC on Saturday.

I think the scoreline was probably a little unfair as the Sounders generated several good scoring chances, had a legit penalty shout waved off and gave up two goals they shouldn’t have, but they were very obviously second best either way.

The Sounders are now 0-5-5 against the six teams ahead of them in the West, which certainly suggests they have a ways to go before they measure up to those teams.

Mark Kastner joins Jeremiah to discuss how the Sounders move on from the loss and head into Leagues Cup.

Nos Audietis - Frustration on numerous fronts
play

05/22/24 • 58 min

Just as it seemed like the season might be turning around, we’re right back in purgatory. The 1-1 tie against the Vancouver Whitecaps wasn’t necessarily disastrous, but it certainly wasn’t very encouraging either.

Like we’ve said so many times this year, the Sounders defended well. They even scored an early goal in this one. But they did very little to build on that lead and were ultimately undone by a very frustrating sequence of calls that ultimately led to the Whitecaps getting a 94th minute equalizer from the penalty spot.

Jeremiah and Aaron discuss their frustrations over being in that position in the first place, vent a bit about the penalty decisions and try to look forward as well.

They, of course, answer a bunch of questions on subjects like our breakout candidates, the next candidate for sale and which position they might target for a U22 signing.
