Effectively they argue that the fortunes of the USMNT are largely divorced from the long arc of American soccer at large. It's an interesting discussion that goes in several directions.

We think the semi against NYCFC is one of the biggest non-finals in team history and that's only become bigger now that we know the Sounders will host the second leg of the final if they advance.
