Nomads at the Intersections

This heavy year has brought host Noami Grevemberg and season 1 co-host Anaïs Monique incredible growth, with insightful breakthroughs, profound solidarity and an expanding BIPOC nomadic community. This year has also brought us to tears with violence, microaggressions and burn-out.

In our pilot episode, Noami and Anaïs sit down and get real with each other like never before. Noami, a former coastal biologist, and Anaïs, a former flight attendant, explore how nomadism has affected their sense of community.

Throwing it all the way back to Q3 of 2019, they compare notes on how the founding of Diversify Vanlife literally shifted culture and visibility for BIPOC on the road. How the Uprising of 2020 exposed our roles in the Revolution as well as the holes in our self-care routines. They also speak on what it means to travel slowly in a Eurocentric country where capitalistic values are the measure of success.

In this proper introduction, get to know our hosts as they weave through key moments in their journeys: what it looked like to take major risks as Black women and what led them to embracing nomadic life and ultimately, to hosting Nomads at the Intersections podcast.

Welcome to Nomads at the Intersections Podcast

Welcome to Nomads at the Intersections podcast! Our hope is that this podcast will inspire us all to shift our perspectives on what road travel looks like, by exploring the stories and experiences of people from different walks of life.

We’ll dive into topics from the margins. Topics, both big and small, that will make us rethink what community means to us.

We're gonna get raw and real, and have some fun with it.

In this season we’ll have conversations with people we don’t often hear from in the road travel community. You know, the ones who don’t always fit the mold. That person you waved to on the highway, or sat next to at the campfire, but you never really heard their story. Those folks who, often unheard, make our community great.

Reclaiming Indigenous Sovereignty (with Wynne Weddell)

Our first guest on Nomads at the Intersections podcast is Wynne Weddell, Native American of the Yankton Sioux Tribe. A hiker, nomad, and full-time beadwork artist - Wynne joins our host, Noami, for this in-person interview from the traditional lands of the Pascua Yaqui and Tohono O’odham in the Southwest. Listen as she shares her story of leaving her homeland to follow her nomadic passions in the forests of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Wynne also recounts her experience at the Dakota Access pipeline, shares stories about her great-grandmother as a front-line activist during the American Indian Movement, how Indigenous peoples must lead the conversation on environmental activism, and so much more. Check out our Show Notes for journal prompts that dig deeper into how your story and Wynne’s experience intersect.

ABOUT OUR GUEST
Wynne Weddell is a member of the Ihanktonwon Nation (Yankton Sioux) specializing in beaded adornments, using her platform to raise awareness of environmental & social justice issues being faced in BIPOC communities.
