First, we have a special guest host tonight, Kendra's...boyfriend? Person? Life partner? Dude she puts up with? They don't have a label really. But he's joining in for this haunted episode told by Kendra! In 2006 Susan, her daughter Jaime, Susan's boyfriend, Matt, and his daughter, Marie, move into a house in Moreno Valley in Southern California. And at first everthing is going picture perfect for this newly blended family. But, it's doesn't stay that way long. It begins with a jar of melted peanut butter, then doors opening and closing, pictures fall off walls, and as the family begins to fall apart, things go from bad to worse... In episode shout out to our fellow podcasters in Florida, @livelaughmurderpodcast, who got slammed by Hurricane Ian this last week. Another road trip for some spookies! Join us on another late night road trip adventure as we go out to Witches Bridge. We try to catch sight of anything creepy while April shares the tale of how the bridge got its name and some of the odd and tragic things that have happened on the site. Be sure to check our Instagram and other socials for videos and pictures of the bridge that we took while there tonight! *Special note: This is the FIRST time I've had to edit anything out of an episode, but it was due to a technical error on my part. As I was taking a video of us driving onto the bridge, it stopped recording our mics. And I didn't want to leave 7 minutes of silence in the episode, but keeping with our promise of being unedited, that's ALL I removed. All the rest of it is still unscripted and unedited just as we always are!* #nocturnaldistractionspodcast #truecrime #podcast #truecrimecommunity #truecrimepodcast #spookyseason #witchesbridge #roadadventure #creepybridges Reminder to check out Live Laugh Murder podcast, who are located in FL in one of the most devastated areas hit by Ian. We go for another night drive as Kendra attempts to show April the old Army Ammunition Plant again, which was an epic fail again. And April tells about the sad death of Vaclav "James" Parkos in the small town of Comstock, Nebraska, in 1935. Which leads to discussion of state mental hospitals back in the day, and how creepy the abandoned ones are, and THAT somehow leads to pondering why a certain bridge close to our city is called 'Witches Bridge'. Which will be the subject and our destination for April's episode next week! Join Kendra later this week for a spooky season story! ☠️👻💀🧟🎃 Email us at: [email protected] Use the following link to access all our socials, listening platforms, donation options, case request form, and Patreon page: https://linktr.ee/nocturnaldistractionspodcast

TW: Deaths of teenagers, and Suicide Kendra tries to see if she can ruin Halloween for anyone else...Because after researching this episode she has tarnished her once undying love of all things Halloween. This episode hopefully will make everyone aware of some of the dangers that come along with Haunted Attractions, home haunted houses, and seemingly innocent practical jokes. Add in the fact that there are way more instances out there where dead bodies were thought to be part of Halloween displays or when Halloween displays are thought to be actual bodies... and she comes to the conclusion that with Halloween you may find yourself in a damned if you do, damned if you don’t, situation. Just be careful out there all you spooks and ghouls and keep an eye out!! History is in the making folks! Because April, that’s right, APRIL is bringing us a TWO PARTER! *Sings “It’s the end of the world as we know it, it’s the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine...” * In all seriousness though, she will be telling us about The Evangelista Occult Murders, an unsolved case of the murder of an entire family of six in Detroit, Michigan in 1929. The parents were found beheaded and their four children were also slaughtered. There are numerous theories that go along with the case, ranging from The Black Hand (a money extortionist group) that was beginning to morph into the traditional day Mafia, a real estate deal gone wrong, or shady doings related to the occult. She will continue to dive into the case in Part Two, so stay tuned! April finishes up the unsolved case of the Detroit Occult murders and we discuss the various theories about what happened more in depth and give our opinion. Was it mob dealings? Was it the tenant that stopped by the night before to give his final payment to Benny? Or was it Benny's old friend, who was also involved in the occult, and had been convicted of killing his whole family with an axe, who had escaped from the psychiatric hospital in which he was being held? Give a listen and decide for yourself! At the start of the episode, Kendra also shares some recent and breaking true crime news that's happened right here in our state. Nocturnal Distractions Podcast - Ep. 36: Satanism: Fact vs Fiction (Part 2 of 2)
play

10/27/22 • 53 min

This is Part Two on Satanism. If you haven't listened to Part One, I'd go listen to it first! This part includes some of the common myths (fiction) surrounding it and the facts (truth) of what Satanism actually is. To end the Spooky Season Kendra, she will be talking about Satanism. That's right. Satanism. What it's about, what they do, what they believe... However, as she dove into researching this information, she quickly realized that what she THOUGHT Satanism was is NOT what it actually is. Take a listen and it may surprise you too. Nocturnal Distractions Podcast - Season 2: Premier - 22 Level "Gradations of Evil" Scale
play

01/03/23 • 76 min

Season Two on Nocturnal Distractions will be a series that will cover Forensic Psychologist, Michael Stone’s, 22- level “Gradations of Evil” Scale. But what exactly is the definition of “evil”? And is there a way to classify one act of evil as being more evil than another? Or, what is the point of even dividing evil into levels? Could we use this information to rehabilitate perpetrators if possible? Or maybe even be able to recognize violent tendencies in younger people, or even children, and try to intervene and hopefully prevent future acts of violence. Maybe to begin to try to understand and answer one of the major questions that makes me, and many others, interested in true crime, the WHY. WHY do people commit ‘evil’ acts? Dr. Stone bases his scale off of research and information that he has gathered about hundreds of murderers in the 20th century. and its focus remains mainly on murder. The few exceptions are cases involving multiple rapes and the strong suspicion of murder, that could not be proven. Or cases where a person was regarded as evil by the community due to their cruelty to a spouse, to children, or to other family/friends. Their actions fall short of actual murder, but still often lead to the death of the victim. In this premiere episode I will be explaining the history behind the scale and how Dr. Stone laid out the 22 levels (also called categories) and his process behind it. I will also briefly give the definitions and characteristics associated with each level. Each episode in the series will be covering a case that can be classified as ‘evil’ beginning with Category 1, then 2, and so on and so forth until all 22 have been discussed. Just to reiterate, this is a SERIES, and not a multi-parter. I like to compare it to a TV show like CSI or Law and Order, you can listen to an episode in the middle of the season and not be lost. While there is an underlying backstory (the ‘Gradations of Evil’ Scale) each case can be listened to on its own with no catching up needed.
