DISCLAIMER: This podcast is intended for folks who enjoy history and learning about people who have lived an interesting life. (If you enjoy Hawai'ian history, you'll really find this story of interest.)

So, today’s podcast, episode ten of Nobody Knows Your Story is about the great white Chief, friend and advisor to Kamehameha; John Young.

Can you imagine being marooned on an island in the South Seas? Well, John was left behind on a tropical island, facing death from his captors but survived. Not only did he survive but he became a trusted military advisor and friend to the tough Hawai’ian Chief who one day would unite all of the islands of Hawai’I into a kingdom.

Married to a relative of the king, Young went on to become one of the ali’i, the ruling caste of the islands, and in a long and busy lifetime amassed wealth and power. He was the “white ali’i”, and his reputation lived on long after his death.
