Yessenia, Haydee and Maggie are first generation Dominican Americans. They share their experiences of being raised by inmigrants parents, navigating the American culture while remaining loyal to their Dominican culture and upbringing.
They get real about their experiences with oppression, racism, and their own personal self discovery journey, while detaching from the cycle of generational trauma, and starting a new generational cycle of self love, acceptance and empowerment.
Our mission is to share important information about our culture, our upbringing, our own challenges, and our journey towards self discovery. As well as provide resources and guidance.

In this episode we share our experiences growing up in the same building with our family and how it was like when we started liking boys. We share how dating while Dominican looks like and how we had to hide Los Novios from our parents because DATING was not acceptable, . We heard crazy phrases such as " Antes de tu pensar en tener un novio aprende a pelar un platano" which translates to " before thinking about dating learn to peel a plantain". We also discuss how boys and girls are raised differently and tend to give more household responsibilities to the girls in the household and we are to ACT a particular way while boys get to be boys and they are asked " Cuantas Novias tu tienes "? ( " How many girlfriends do you have"?). Other phrases we heard growing up were " Ya te puedes Casar" ( " You can now get Married ") , Or " Tu eres Hombre de la Casa" ( "You are the man of the house").
