NeuroDiverse Christian Couples - Relationship Foundations: A New Look at Genesis 2 with Bruce C.E. Fleming
play

01/17/22 • 51 min

Join Rev. Holmes and Dr. Holmes as they interview Bruce C.E. Fleming.
About:
Rev. Bruce C. E. Fleming holds three graduate and post-graduate degrees in theology: an M.Div. and Th.M. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and the D.E.A. from the University of Strasbourg, France. Ordained by the Evangelical Free Church of America, he has been a pastor, professor of Practical Theology, and academic dean on the graduate-school level in French-speaking Africa. He has co-founded several churches and parachurch organizations. Bruce and his wife, Dr. Joy Elasky Fleming, have been married for more than 25 years and are the parents of Christy and Mark. They live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Rev. Bruce C. E. Fleming has written books on the topics discussed in this podcast.
God did not curse Eve or limit womena in any way. Sadly, modern translations of Genesis 3:16 make it look like God did both. God didn't curse Adam either, but God did speak to him in a way exactly parallel to the other rebel in the Garden of Eden, the serpent-tempter. And two curses were imposed by God because of them.People have made up many myths and stories about what supposedly happened in Eden. They make it seem like God cursed the woman and that she somehow deserved it. She didn’t. They make it seem like God instituted the man’s bad behavior toward his wife. God didn’t. The Bible tells us what really happened. And this book is all about what God really said especially in Genesis 3:16. When these chapters in Genesis are rightly understood, and we gain a true view of what God really said to the woman in Genesis 3:16, many New Testament passages can be reinvestigated. They too can be cleared away of the bias we find popping up in translations of and commentary on several key passages in the New Testament that look back to Genesis 2 and 3. This book is based on the episodes of Season One of The Eden Podcast

NeuroDiverse Christian Couples - DEI is often Missing NeuroDiversity with Peter Mann
play

06/05/23 • 48 min

Join Dr. Stephanie and Dan Holmes of NeuroDiverse Christian Couples Podcast as they interview autistic entrepreneur Peter Mann. Peter unknowingly tapped into being neurodivergent, using his autism to become a highly successful serial entrepreneur and CEO.
Being autistic allowed him to:
  • see unusual patterns to improve business strategy
  • create first-of-kind products with unique physical designs
  • take business risks

However, being neurodivergent came with a personal cost – such as having challenges developing and maintaining close relationships. Peter’s confirmed late autism diagnosis has changed his life. While he still focuses on developing his business, he has pivoted his time to find new ways to support others who are neurodivergent and may not know how to tap into their abilities to succeed at work. His new mission is to advocate for autism awareness in the workplace – and help others overcome obstacles to create fantastic new companies, products, and more.
Bio:
Peter Mann is the CEO & Founder of Virginia-based Oransi, a leading air purification company known for its efficient, intuitive, and reliable products for consumers, schools, organizations, and businesses. He also is the Chair of the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers’ Air Cleaner Council. In 2021, Oransi merged with Aviemore Technologies, now a motor technology company with a clean energy mission.
Oransi’s new manufacturing facility in Radford, Virginia, is making products in the USA with advanced motor technologies. Previously, Peter was the Founder & CEO of the Austin, Texas-based Alen Corp., an air purification company he built, and after 7 years, had a successful exit. He went to college on a Navy ROTC scholarship and then served 4 years, including a tour in the Red Sea during the First Gulf War. He was a communications officer and then a gunnery officer on the USS McCandless. Peter is late diagnosed autistic and now advocates for autism awareness in the workplace.

NeuroDiverse Christian Couples - Answering Listener Questions on Attachment, Rupture & Repair with Dr. Gill
play

07/17/23 • 64 min

We welcome bas Dr. Jesse Gill who did 2 podcasts with us last year on the basics of Attachment.
We asked listeners what do you want to know more about attachment?
Here are some questions we received:
Is a contract (marriage license and officiated wedding) the same thing as an attachment?
Is it the start of one, or perhaps not part of it at all? Can it be true for one party and not the other?
When intending to form new attachments, is it feeling first or thinking first (acting first)?
What's the relationship between attachment and emotional control?
Which comes first, attachment or compassion?
How does the Theory of mind differ in sentiment between those we have an attachment with and those we don't?
So what causes rupture?
What is repair?
How does this fit with the idea of 'keeping a record of wrong"
Where do you start? Connection 101
What about different levels of need to connect or attach?
About Dr. Gill:
Jesse Gill, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist who is the Clinic Director for Psychological Health Affiliates in Hershey, PA. He is passionate about integrating Scripture with Attachment Theory. Jesse applies these truths to Christian marriage in his book Face to Face: Seven Keys to a Secure Marriage. He has been providing training on this subject to counselors, couples, and pastors for more than the past 15 years. Jesse has served as an elder at his home church and has a heart for pastors. He has provided training, consultation, and assessment services to independent churches and denominations in the Northeast. Jesse speaks regularly for the American Association of Christian Counselors and has published articles on building healthy marriages and families, which are in print in the US and overseas. NeuroDiverse Christian Couples - The Sound Relationship House with Gottman Trained Therapist
play

07/10/23 • 54 min

Today Dan joins Stephanie with Dr. Mike McNulty, a Gottman-trained therapist who also specializes in NeuroDiverse couples.
We talk today about The Sound Relationship House and "Why Marriages Succeed or Fail" based on Gottman's evidence-based research.
There are very few Christian counselors, coaches, and pastors who are trained in ND marriage. Our research shows Christians want to work with another Christian marriage helper, but sadly many Christian professionals still do not take ND relationships seriously and stick to Sunday School advice (pray more, submit more, have more sex) or say dismissive things like "relationship problems are relationship problems" and dismiss the need for additional training.
Therefore, if you cannot find a Christian therapist, find someone who will respect your faith, has Gottman training, and is ND trained.
Topics today include:
  • Building The Sound Relationship House
  • The 4 horsemen and their antidotes
  • We answer a listener's question about stonewalling concerning intentional vs. unintentional.

About Dr. McNulty
Mike McNulty, Ph.D., is a teacher, trainer, and psychotherapist who specializes in working with neurodiverse couples. He is the founder and owner of The Chicago Relationship Center and provides intensive couples therapy through Couples Therapy Inc. He was one of the first five advanced clinical trainers appointed by The Gottman Institute to provide workshops for couples and professionals at all levels of Gottman training. He obtained his Ph.D. from the Institute for
Clinical Social Work in Chicago in 2000. An extensive summary of his dissertation research, entitled “Dyslexia and the Life Course,” was published in the Journal of Learning Disabilities in July of 2003, and has been cited more than 500 times in peer-reviewed publications. He went
on to present his work with neurodiverse couples in 2007 at The Annual Gottman Conference. More recently, Dr. McNulty led webinars for The Gottman Institute for professionals and for
consumers on neurodiverse couples. He has also interviewed for several podcasts on this topic
and others. He regularly leads “The Art & Science of Love: A Weekend Workshop for Couples” in Chicago and Oakland.
