Chatting on her return to activism, advocacy and public speaking. We go through her neurodivergent story, the story of how she found out she was autistic and her son got diagnosed as being autistic too. You can here her art for telling a personal story, a story of experience of listening and learning to others and the motives of driving things forward with the community of neurodivergent and disabled people and making a society that works for us. She speaks of a hope of humane compassion and empathy and passionate about bringing actions and solutions in the face of community suffering and trauma.
This podcast features content that may reference suicidal ideation, mental health trauma, depression and the institutionalisation of autistic people and general themes of ableism. She over the two episodes tells an emotive and moving story. If at times what you hear is triggering for yourself skip bits, take a break come back to it. I want to focus on the listener and guests self care and wellbeing same for the guests with inclusion and accessibility. Tessa McEnvoy She/Her In this interview with myself explores her diagnoses of apraxia, as well as sensory processing disorder, bipolar disorder and autism. On Facebook she has created the 'Apraxia Story' blog, a blog which is where she writes of her diagnoses of apraxia and neurodivergent conditions and her experiences of being an adoptee. In this interview she touches on her experience of an adoptee, which has given her trauma of being gaslit, manipulated and exploited in what she describes as abuse with her adopted family and shares her not so easy challenge of seeking to live a free and independent life in an abled world with such conditions been taken advantage of by others and how it can be hard to self-advocate. Telling of the challenges a person with oral-motor apraxia may have with communicating she shares how it can prove challenges in school and the work place when its all so difficult to advocate for yourself and get the necessary working conditions that she needs with useful advice to give to teachers and employers about the needs of neurodivergent people.
