Today’s guest is surgical oncologist Dr. Jeffrey Farma.
He is truly “Temple Made”. A former Temple University Medical Student, he went to Temple for his general surgery residency, and now he’s at Temple Fox Chase Cancer Center where he is the Chief of the Division of General Surgery, Co-Director of the Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program, and the Program Director for the Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship.
Last year he was admitted to the American College of Surgeons Academy of Master Surgeon Educators.
We talk with him about his passion for surgical oncology, breakthroughs in immunotherapy, what it was like caring for cancer patients during the pandemic, and more. He is a man who loves the many dimensions of his job as a physician.

Today we are speaking with Dr. Jessica Beard.
A trauma surgeon at Temple University Hospital and the Director of research at the Philadelphia Center for gun violence reporting. She just became a Stoneleigh Foundation fellow, giving her more opportunity to do research on gun violence prevention.
Dr. Beard has a background in public health and has been devoted to trying to reduce the amount of gun violence in Philadelphia. She talks today about her path to medicine, her passion for public health, and how she responds to the emotional challenges of seeing such suffering every day.
She also discusses some of the causes and solutions of gun violence in our cities.

On this episode, medical student Hank Davis, and the Director of Narrative Medicine, Michael Vitez sit down with Dr. Oneida Arosarena.
She is an otolaryngologist at Temple and Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion. We asked her all about what the last year has been like for her, both as a surgeon and physician working during the pandemic, and in her role as Associate Dean for Diversity and Inclusion at a time when the pandemic has shown so clearly the inequality in our city and country.
Dr. Arosarena is a graduate of Johns Hopkins for her undergraduate and medical degrees. She did her residency at University of Michigan in otolaryngology, and a fellowship at the University of New York Upstate in facial plastic, reconstructive, and craniofacial surgery.
In our conversation, she told us about what excites her most these days working at Temple and shared a wonderful story about a patient she will long remember.

We had Dr. Fekete on our podcast back in March at the outbreak of Covid-19, and asked him back on the show to get an update. We talk all things coronavirus -- what we’ve learned, what we still don’t know, and what it’s been like for him at Temple hospital during the pandemic.
I even asked whether he’d himself now go to a dinner party, and finally he gives us his forecast going forward.
