Hollywood Case File #23 - The Peter Ivers Mystery
Mystery on the Rocks
11/26/20 • 59 min
In March 1983, avant garde musician and anarchic late-night TV show host Peter Ivers is found in his Los Angeles loft apartment bludgeoned to death with a hammer. The trail went cold immediately and, despite the case being reopened in 2008 following a biography of Ivers, it seems likely that the killer will never be identified.
So who could have even wanted Ivers dead, never mind actually murdering him? And join us for perhaps our most controversial episode yet as we all do what seems like the unthinkable and actually stick up for the 2016 version of Ghostbusters...
At the Mystery on the Rocks bar you’ll find a retired sleuth, the bartender trying to settle his tab, and the down-on-her-luck lounge singer, solving mysteries and drinking cocktails. Each week a new guest enters the bar and attempts to solve an unsolved mystery alongside the regulars. Hosted by Masud Milas, Chris Stokes, and Sooz Kempner. It’s a high concept comedy and true crime podcast, set in a fictional crime-solving bar (with real cocktails!). The focus of the show is to attempt to crack a real, unsolved mystery from history – true crime and bizarre occurrences, all with a whodunnit or WTF happened question hanging over them. Masud makes the drinks, Chris tells the mystery and Sooz sings and plays live piano – and everyone chats and chimes in with their theories.

Charlie has turned his hand to most things and excelled at all of them, from musicals to stand-up and even to an appearance in Doctor Who! He currently hosts his own radio show on TalkSport and graced our bar to help us with a mystery right from the very heartland of his home county... The Devil's Footprints...
After a heavy snowfall in February 1855, Devon locals were perplexed to discover a strange single trail of hoof-like footprints that were said to cover a total distance of anything between 40 and 100 miles, with buildings and walls apparently no obstacle for whatever left them...

Hollywood Case File #27 - The Strange Case of Gary DeVore
Mystery on the Rocks
12/31/20 • 65 min
In June 1997, screenwriter Gary DeVore vanishes without trace after finishing a script said to expose corruption in the CIA. A year later, his car is found submerged in an area of water already searched when he first went missing - an aqueduct below a busy highway. Not only that, investigators believe that in order to have crashed his car there he would have had to drive 3 miles into oncoming traffic. And the car's headlights were switched to 'off'.
Oh, and Gary's hands were missing. But this is only where the case *begins* to get strange....

Sauntering into the bar this week is the effortlessly funny and absolutely top drawer Jarred Christmas who brightens up the bar with tales of his time on (and borderline sabotaging of) TV shows such as Celebrity Total Wipeout and Big Brother's Big Mouth and gets stuck into a particularly strange case...
