To Be or Not to Be a Content Creator?
My Tog Blog About Awesome Content Creation
07/04/22 • 8 min
Should you become a content creator? Or have you started creating content around something and recently began wondering if you ought to continue or not?
These are questions only you can answer for yourself. On the one hand, there are a lot of potential opportunities that can come from creating content and building an audience; on the other hand, there can be some significant challenges associated with putting your work - and yourself - out there as an artist and/or entrepreneur
In this first episode, I share how and why I started getting into content creation, including how I worked through some of the challenges that prevented me from getting started earlier or continuing once I'd made some preliminary steps forward. From what I've seen, these challenges are fairly common among other new content creators. And my hope is that hearing a little about my story might be helpful for you if you're considering the question of whether or not "to be" a content creator.

My 100-Day Tweet Streak Challenge. The Results May Surprise You.
My Tog Blog About Awesome Content Creation
12/17/22 • 9 min
When I started this challenge, I did it with the notion that Twitter could have a lot of potential as a distribution platform for my podcast and YouTube channel.
Content creation for Twitter is relatively efficient compared to other social media platforms such as Instagram, Tiktok, or YouTube. It's also comparatively easy to share links via Twitter and - perhaps because of that and the predominantly text-based nature of the platform - in my experience, Twitter users are more apt to click external links (e.g., to podcast episodes) shared via Tweets than on other platforms.
All this made me want to know what would happen if I really doubled down on a Twitter growth strategy. And to do that, I took on the 100-Day Tweet Streak challenge, where I committed to Tweeting once per day, every day, for 100 days.
In this episode, I talk about what I learned and how it went.
The results may be surprising.

15x Your Followers With the Right Engagement Strategy, With Ginger Starr Borden
My Tog Blog About Awesome Content Creation
08/17/22 • 28 min
Successful content creators understand that the value of their brand on social media is measured by the engagement their content generates among a defined audience - meaning, in this case, likes, comments, shares, or other forms of "content interactions." This is what drives platform algorithms to push content out to larger audiences, creating opportunities to build one's own brand and generate interest among followers, sponsors, and clients.
But as a small content creator or business, how does one get the engagement ball rolling? That's the topic of my conversation with Ginger Starr Borden, who helps content creators and small businesses get noticed on Instagram. Recently, Ginger grew her own Instagram account from 3000 to more than 49,000 followers. And in this episode, Ginger shares some of her insights on how she achieved that using what's known as an engagement strategy.
You can connect with Ginger on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/gingerstarrborden/ or on her website at https://www.gingerstarrborden.com/.

In this episode, we'll talk with Jessy Grossman, an experienced entrepreneur who created one of the fastest-growing influencer talent agencies in the country and has been quoted in the New York Times, Forbes, and other publications.
In 2017, Jessy launched Women in Influencer Marketing (WIIM), an organization that works to connect, educate, and empower women in the influencer marketing sector. Building on her experience as a talent manager, Jessy and her team have grown WIIM into a community with over 4,500 members and more than 300 associated brands. In doing so, they incorporated content creation as one aspect of a broader marketing strategy that rested on an existing business foundation—a model worth considering for content creators looking to monetize their brands.
In our discussion, Jessy shares her insights on monetization models, the importance of the buyer journey, success factors for influences, and challenges women face in influencer marketing, among other topics.
There's a lot here for anyone looking to monetize their content business!

How to Make Your First $1 as an Affiliate Marketer, With Ileane Smith
My Tog Blog About Awesome Content Creation
09/03/24 • 58 min
Would you like to earn your first $1 as an affiliate marketer?
Thanks to Riverside.fm for sponsoring this episode. This is my "go-to" tool for recording and editing video and audio podcast interviews. Try it out with a 15% discount using the code MyTogBlog. Check it out here. (Note: This is an affiliate link, which means I would earn a commission if you purchase using this link.)
In this episode, I talk with Ileane Smith, who has worked with major brands, gained acceptance into the Amazon Influencer Program, increased her YouTube channel to over 12K subscribers, and accumulated over 15K followers on the X App - and did it all while being a part-time content creator.
We discuss the differences between the Amazon Influencer program and the Amazon Associate program, the comparative benefits of the influencer and associates programs, and the various tools and platforms that content creators can use to monetize their channels.
We also unveil a new marketing strategy that can help small channels create their first affiliate revenue stream.
Other topics include balancing a full-time job with an influencer career, the pros and cons of affiliate marketing versus creating digital products, and some of our favorite social media platforms and features.
Realistically, affiliate marketing probably won't result in "retirement money" unless you can consistently scale your lead generation out to the 50-100K+ views territory. However, even with a small channel or social media profile, you can start generating income via Amazon and other affiliate channels. This can help offset the costs of your content creation hobby, side hustle, or business. And if you can then add some sponsorships to that, you can also get free stuff from brands and increase revenue a bit more. With some consistent effort, that, I think, is within reach.

Five Ways to Keep Your Content Fresh (as a Content Creator)
My Tog Blog About Awesome Content Creation
10/03/22 • 13 min
Running out of fresh content ideas is among the biggest fears that haunt content creators. And most of us will have this fear realized at some point in time. I'm talking about those days when our ideas list is running dry and we just can't come up with new content topics that excite even us, let alone our audience.
This episode is about five ways you can come up with fresh content ideas when those days arrive. It's based on the process I went through this summer when I was struggling to come up with fresh content ideas myself. As I discovered, different sources were helpful in different ways. But to get the best ideas, I had to dig a little deeper than what I tried at first.
Eventually, I got there. And my hope is that this combination of sources will be useful to you as well. Check it out!
