Romero directed a pair of non-horror films (THE AFFAIR and SEASON OF THE WITCH) that have either eluded or underwhelmed longtime fans who preferred the darker and gruesome later work he is most known for. But in 1973 George Romero completed THE CRAZIES, a film steeped in chaos and fear.
