Australia, England, Australia, England... Kendra Groves has been bouncing back and forth with her husband between these two distant countries navigating her way through life and baking her way through a lot of it.
She’s in Manchester now in case you’re wondering. She’s originally trained in musical theatre and opera, but trying and trying to get somewhere in that industry just proved too difficult against many odds. The abusive agents, the challenge of being tall, not looking the way you need to be. It was all too much!
Her passion to be creative has always been there but it wasn’t until she started baking that she realised that she can keep that creativity going and make something of it. Kendra is so vibrant, always in bright colours no matter what time of year it is, and very bubbly! Just watch her social media and you’ll instantly see what I’m talking about.
That personality is very addictive to watch and she has a great knack for keeping you entertained in any video she creates. While she’s a content creator by night, she still works as a chef during the day. So balancing it all can be challenging. How does she do it? What inspires her to keep going? And does she even have black or grey in her wardrobe?
Keep listening to find out and hear about Kendra’s inspiring baking journey...

This week, we sit down with a relative newcomer to the baking world, and our first male guest - Harry. Harry started baking 2020 but has very quickly developed his skills, built an incredible social media following on both Instagram and TikTok, and is now even teaching at a cake school not far from where he lives!
How has he achieved such success so quickly? We find out and also learn that Harry's laid back attitude and ability to balance his day job - an aircraft engineer - with this baking life is definitely not an easy task but he has managed to make it work!
Harry is incredibly easy going to chat with and this episode he takes the time to give healthy insight into how he was able to build his social media following so quickly. Within 18 months he's closing in on 100k followers on Instagram and over 50k on TikTok. This is after Instagrams algorithm changes from 2021 that made this so much harder for many to grow their accounts.
We hope he inspires many of you who are just starting or who have been doing this a while to grab opportunity when it comes and have a lot of fun doing it!

This week we’re in Luxembourg to speak with Winnie. Fashion designer-turned baker and content creator with some pretty amazing bakes. For example her cake rolls which are extremely unique.
This creative type fell into baking but it was never really part of the plan. Giving up a career and figuring out what to do in life was a struggle. However, baking has gone from being just something fun to keep the brain busy to now baking all sorts of creative content.
For someone with almost 700 thousand followers, she only just created a website! But that doesn’t phase Winnie. She just goes with the flow and gives herself the space to be creative and let herself flourish. She’s been in some from of design and creativity for most of her life so this is now the natural continuation of what she loves as a person.
She’s been in the fortunate position to have a husband continue to work to reduce the pressure on her to have to perform with her baking from the get go. This has allowed her to develop her skills over time and see where it all takes her. But as many of you know, the baking machine sucks you in bit by bit and you find yourself eventually turning this hobby into something full time.
How did Winnie handle that transition? Listen on to hear her journey.

Janelle Copeland. She helped launch The Cake Mamas way back - when a rather unusual partnership was formed between two talented women. You’re going to hear about things falling into place, taking big bets, knowing when you’re not ready for something big, and pushing forward in spite of all odds. You're going to hear about losing it all and having to build yourself back up. Imagine having to turn your life around from declaring bankruptcy - hitting rock bottom - and starting all over. This is exactly what Janelle did.
This is a story of comeback and Janelle shines her way through it all. Open, honest, and so inspirational. We go to California to sit and with Janelle and get her take on why you just need to make things happen in spite of all odds. Enjoy.

Huntsville, Alabama. I doubt many of you have been there. I think I’ve driven through it at some point in my life. But that’s where we are today speaking with Ally, or “Sugar Pusher” as she’s known online.
Ally is a content creator. But she’s been baking for a long time. Her previous career while still creative was just hard work. She’s spent a long time in the music industry. We actually spend a good bit of time talking to her about this part of her life because it’s important to understand the past made her into who she is today.
It’s a HARD industry to be in. But wow can it shape and motivate you to succeed. Ally has an incredible knack for creativity but also is extremely kind to share so much about how she’s made it successful for her to people who are new to this industry.
Her content is witty, inspiring, funny, detailed, and quite varied! We wanted to go in depth with a full-time content creator because this is one aspect of the baking industry that isn’t well-understood and many people want to be a part of it. And luckily we found Ally along the way to tell us about her baking journey too. Everybody wins! I really hope you get a lot out of this episode....

We are back in England and just outside of London today in Woking, Surrey. We’re speaking with Victoria of Vic’s Kitchen. If you’ve ever wondered about running your own cake school, better ways to run you run your cake business, and even some quick ways to make some money, you’ve got to listen to this episode.
Vic has been running a cake school now for almost a decade and through this she has amassed hundreds of students learning not just about baking of course, but various other - and just as important - aspects of running your own cake business. The business end of things, pricing, marketing, and other strategies.
Vic has always been focused on the community and building a place that is fun for bakers to come and learn, feel comfortable, and most importantly, connect with other like-minded individuals. We’ve even had one of her guest teachers on this show in season 1 - remember Harry Bakes?
This episode is full of great advice whether you’re starting out, been at it for a while, or looking to add something new to your business. It’s hard work! There’s no question but Vic’s determination and drive is so inspiring we think you’re going to really enjoy this one. Let’s get on then with Vic’s baking journey....

Today, we have an open an honest discussion about choosing your right path and making sure you’re happy doing it.
We’re speaking today with Thao who is the brain behind the brand Don’t Tell Charles from Melbourne Australia. If you’ve ever created a concrete cake, you can thank Thao for that as she was the first one to make it.
Thao has taught thousands through her cake school. But it all started way before that. Going against the grain of family expectations, she started a cafe and went through a lot of changes to get to where she is today. It’s taught her so much about herself and through this journey she has then gone on to teach so many others in all manner of skills not just with baking, but with business ownership, entrepreneurship, and being an inspiring soul to so many.
We personally loved this chat because Thao beautifully opens up about the ups and downs of it all but through this discussion has the positivity and determination to continue to succeed no matter where life takes her.
For those of you who constantly question what you’re doing in life, sit back and take a listen. We think you’ll get a lot out of this one.

Hey everyone! So you all know by now, we started this podcast to help build something of a support network for bakers. A place where you can listen, learn, relate, be inspired, and most importantly, not feel alone in your own baking journey.
So imagine, if you really are baking on your own, in a country where the style of baking you do is non-existent. Where the ingredients, accessories, and access to training all comes from overseas. Imagine, your favourite sprinkles, or palm spears coming from thousands of miles away!
Say hello to Anjali - or Cakes and Co as she goes by online. Anjali lives in Panama. Think Central America. Definitely not the middle of nowhere, but in the baking world, some days it can certainly feel that way.
Through all of this though Anjali has built a brand, a style, and a significant following on social media by her inspiring cakes, patterns, use of colours, and designs. She’s created something out of nothing and so we were really interested to speak with her.
Just a note, English is her third language so she spoke so well about her challenges even though it’s not her mother tongue. Right, let’s not keep you waiting and hear Anjali’s baking journey. Enjoy.

Welcome back to season 2! Have you missed us? We are so excited to be back and really happy to have another line-up of amazing bakers for this season.
Today, we’re in the North of England to speak with Amy of Amy’s Little Cakery. You may know her from some of her cartoon cakes she’s recently done, but this story goes back a little further.
Holding down a busy day job while also baking on the weekends is not easy, but welcome to Amy’s life. Regardless of this Amy has been able to put out all kinds of cakes. And not just fondant or buttercream. There are been florals, gravity-defying architectural cakes, wedding cakes, and of course, cartoon cakes to name a few.
Her desire to keep pushing herself and try new things has got her some interesting attention. Just this past week she went viral and ended up being interviewed on a US news channel. What does it feel like to go viral? How does one keep on top of all the busy schedules? What truly keeps this woman going? We’re about to find, so enjoy this episode and it’s good to be back!

As a female growing up in India, Hena Mahajan never followed the normal path. A creative at heart who found herself entering the world of jewellery design at a fairly young age, she ran her own business creating and selling her own designs.
Funky batter however was formed as a continuation of her ability to want to create even if it wasn’t in the industry she originally she started working in. Funky batter is the ability for anyone to download and follow her core recipes to create whatever you want with your cakes.
Starting with 16 core flavours, but giving you the tools to go off and create your own, Hena has just built the foundation for so many bakers to start with their own recipes and build on them. It’s an inspiring story and motivating to listen to as it just shows that just when you think an industry like cake already has it all, you can still find ways to help and find new ways to teach people the essentials. I really hope you like it.
