Singer songwriter Eric Hirshberg's path is anything but typical. He's a former CEO of Activision and Deutsch LA, where he led record-breaking launches for major franchises like Call of Duty and was named one of the 50 Most Creative People in Business by AdAge. Yet throughout his remarkable career, Eric has always remained deeply connected to music. His songs have been featured in major outlets like People Magazine, American Songwriter, and Relix, and his collaboration with Aloe Blacc on "I Love Not Drinking" earned a Grammy nomination this year.

'Second Hand Smoke' his new album (released Sept 13 2024) is a deeply personal and refreshingly unique album that explores themes rarely addressed in mainstream music, like sobriety, aging, meditation, and the complexities of modern relationships. It's filled with a rich blend of introspective lyrics, an Americana-tinged sound, and a mature perspective-songs that dig deep into universal truths while resonating with life experiences. The album's success is a testament to Eric's unique voice and perspective, making it a project well worth checking out!

UK Jazz artist/producer/journalist Fiona Ross chats about her new album, women in jazz, and the London Jazz Fest! All on Episode 19, Season 3.

Fiona Ross is one of those people that I keep coming back to. Fiona is very inspirational and very much a role model of what is truly the meaning of success as a creative artist. I spoke with her from her London home the night after her 5th new album launch gig. I could see from all the build-up to the event, and the buzz all over social media that this new (5th) album titled: "Red Flags and High Heels" was a resounding success even after just 24 hours!

Fiona explained her motivation for this 5th album concept, and how it was clearly a progressive linear timeline as is weaved throughout all her albums to date. We also talked about her founding "Women In Jazz Media" It's simply birth to continued exponential growth, now with 16 team members and a UK parliamentary award for Jazz Media Excellence, and the promoting of equal rights for women in the UK jazz industry.

I highly recommend you check out the consummate musicianship of Fiona and the other musicians on this wonderful album. The production is super professional quality for an album that is totally self-funded.

Look out for more coming with Fiona and me as I head over to the London Jazz Festival - reporting live for Music Matters Podcast and playing my bass guitar as a guest at one of Fiona's London Jazz Festival gigs.

When you have a friend that's happy to pick you up from the airport at a moments notice and has been picked by Billy Joel as a protégé. It's time to ask him to chat on your new podcast. What a great podcast show this became. Lots of backstage sharing and a real treat to hear Michael play for us all live from his home studio in Las Vegas.
Read some short extracts from a resume that's like a mini-book - Michael Cavanaugh is the new voice of the American Rock & Roll Songbook and a charismatic performer and musician made famous for his piano/lead vocals in the Broadway musical Movin’ Out. Handpicked by Billy Joel to star in Movin’ Out, Cavanaugh evokes a style rivalling the Piano Man. In this lead role, he received both Tony and Grammy nominations.
After the end of the broadway show in late 2005. Michael started touring and soon became one of the hottest artists in the private events market, and he continues to perform worldwide for company and charity events as well as sporting events including many PGA tour events, the SuperBowl, and the Indy 500. His interpretation of the modern rock/pop songbook led to Billboard calling him “The New Voice of the American Rock and Roll Songbook,” and he was recognized by Reuters as Entertainer of the Year for the private events market.

Michael continues to tour all of his well-known four symphony productions along with performing with his band in performing arts centers and other public venues.

“The Way I Hear It”, his second commercial album, was released in April 2017, and it debuted at #17 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart.

In 2020, Michael Cavanaugh reached the POLLSTAR Live75. The top 75 active touring acts in the country.

My special guest on this episode is a music clearance and licensing expert - Kevin Magowan. Raised in Los Vegas, Nevada, he was fortunate enough to meet Elvis! A born Rocker, as a young man Kevin made his way to Los Angeles, and started his career in the music business with the music publishing legend Al Gallico. Then he went on to Walt Disney Studios and worked for Evan M. Greenspan/EMG. INC in the area of music clearance and licensing. Kevin share valuable insights into the do's and don't of this complex area of the music industry, so take heed, of the valuable nuggets' of info he shares with me. Kevin's life-long love of music has never waned, he continues to write and takes the opportunity to share his passion by performing ever chance he gets.

Kevin's life-long passion for all things Buddy Holly, inspired him to petition and secure the Buddy Holly Hollywood Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He personal arranged to have the Star on Vine street next to the members of The Beatles, who have always acknowledged they were so inspired by Buddy and his music. The ceremony took place on what's was to have been Buddy's 75th birthday - September 7th, 2011. Through Kevin's efforts and devotion to this cause that date is now officially known as the Buddy Holly Day in Hollywood. If that wasn't enough - Kevin also was instrumental in getting the famous - Buddy Holly - "The Apartment Tapes" officially released. Through all this he has and remains a personal friend of Maria Elena Holly - Buddy's widow.

You can connect with Kevin via his Facebook Page.

What a pleasure to chat with and hear sing the unmistakable soulful voice of Finnish musician, composer, arranger and vocal coach Charlotta Kerbs. (also affectionately known as) Charlotta Curves.

I've been following Charlotta on YouTube and social media for sometime, and she's always amazed me with the versatility of her voice, with its deep expression and amazing tone. As I mentioned it's one of those voices that is immediately recognizable. Please listen in and hear for yourself - I actually had tears flowing with her first of two songs she sings for us. The second is a haunting folk song and reminds me of many of the reasons I admire and love the time I've spent over in the lands of the Nordics.

I recommend you check out all things Charlotta Kerbs (also known as) Charlotta Curves on her social media channels.
