This week Bob had us revisit the 1986 romance / drama Crossroads. Directed by Walter Hill and written by John Fusco. Crossroads is an exemplary showcase of southern blues that would make a fantastic family film but was unfortunately hidden inside a rated R release that most fans of Ralph Macchio from The Karate Kid weren't allowed to see in theaters. This week Dustin chose Get Shorty to sprinkle some Travolta on the podcast. This comedy adapted from an Elmore Leonard novel stars John Travolta as Chili Palmer a Loan shark out of Miami working for Dennis Farina's Ray 'Bones' Barboni on the trail of David Paymers Leo Devoe, a drycleaner who faked his death to get out of his debt to the loan shark. The chase leads Palmer all the way to Los Angeles where he meets up with Harry Zimm, a sleazy movie producer played expertly by Gene Hackman. alongside stars like Renee Russo, Danny DeVito, James Gandolfini, Delroy Lindo and Bette Midler Barry Sonnenfeld Directs a fun take on the mobster / crime genre.
