#7 – Punch-Drunk Love
Movie Go Round
01/06/18 • 62 min
Widely regarded as containing Adam Sandler’s best film performance, Punch-Drunk Love is the tale of an oddball man named Barry, who has seven horrible sisters and some serious anger issues. This week, Brett, Nicole, and David were joined by guest Matthew Sargent, and together we addressed such issues as, Who is this Paul Thomas Anderson guy, anyhow? What is up with the music in this movie? And what is Barry’s major malfunction and should it keep him from having a serious relationship? Come listen!
Next episode, Movie-Go-Round continues its second thematic round with a return to Around the World! The film? Paolo Sorrentino’s Italian art drama, “The Great Beauty.” Go watch the film if you haven’t! See you next Saturday!
#39 – El Mariachi
Movie Go Round
09/30/18 • 60 min
Brett made the pick for "Around the World" this time, and chose Robert Rodriguez's debut film, El Mariachi. This $7,200 movie was shot for the Mexican home video market, but Columbia Pictures picked it up for distribution and turned it into an indie hit. Brett, David, and Nicole dug into this homemade potluck dish, wondering if its technical quality hurts its longevity, what has become of its writer/director's career, and if it has the greatest possible ending, especially for its storyline and budget.
Next episode, also due out today due to our lateness, is a You Did This to Us! Your pick? The Emoji Movie. Why? Who hurt you?

#31 – Jackie Brown
Movie Go Round
07/23/18 • 55 min
Our new rounds always begin with “New to Two,” and this week Nicole introduced Brett and David to Quentin Tarantino’s third feature film, "Jackie Brown." Featuring some of Tarantino’s signature elements (clever dialogue, loving shots of a woman’s feet, killer music choices) and deviating in equally significant ways (much less blood, a mature romantic element), "Jackie Brown" was only a modest success and one that a lot of fans have missed seeing. Join us as we dig into this low-profile Tarantino, and ask such questions as: Is this a modern blaxploitation movie? How are so many people getting shot in public with no one noticing? And WHAT is the deal with Samuel L. Jackson’s hair?
Next week is Netflix Roulette! The movie? "Lucky Them." ... Lucky us.

#152 – Little Door Gods (The Guardian Brothers)
Movie Go Round
02/11/22 • -1 min
This round's Primeflix Roulette was an animated film from China that comes in two versions: the original, available on YouTube, and the culturally neutered Weinstein Company cut, available on Netflix. Two minor gods, thinking they're no longer needed by the human world, are asked for a little divine aid when a mother and daughter have to keep the family restaurant going. A brother god comes to help while the other takes more large-scale measures to feel needed, ones that could end in disaster. Will the restaurant stay afloat? Will the world end? Will someone please wake up Nicole Kidman? It's time for her lines.
Next week will be David's pick for a Future Classic, Kubo and the Two Strings.

Movie-Go-Round Marathon Update
Movie Go Round
09/18/20 • 3 min
Today, we wanted to drop an update in the feed as to where the show has been and what you can expect from it in the future and over the next month. (Spoiler: Movie-Ghoul-Round will be back!) Here's a transcription of the update:
"Hello, everyone – Brett Stewart here. I wanted to drop an announcement in the feed to give everyone an update on what to expect over the next month from Movie-Go-Round.
Firstly: It’s been a tough year! The pandemic, stay-at-home orders, devastating wildfires, massive protests – riots – 2020’s been a real peach. For me, the pandemic hit like a ton of bricks and I had more work than ever before. That’s why I took a break from producing Movie-Go-Round to step back and regroup.
I’m really excited to let you all know that we’re now back and, at least I think, better than ever! Starting later today, you’ll be getting a huge influx of episodes in your feed. Think of it as a, “End of Summer, Beginning of Fall, Movie-Go-Round Marathon Special That Also Not-So-Secretly Doubles as a Way for Us to Release our Lengthy Backlog in Time for Movie-Ghoul-Round in the Final Weeks of October.” Very catchy.
You’ll notice some significant differences this time around. The editing style on the episodes is very different and leans more into the production end of things. I think folks will really enjoy that. On October 1, we’ll be wrapping all the episodes into the launch of a brand-new website that includes loads of new content, particularly video and live streaming. It’s a really pretty site, better than ever before, and well-worthy of a distinguished spot amongst your bookmarks.
Lastly, I do also want to apologize: This year got so hectic that as the producer, I dropped the ball on keeping the audience abreast of why we were MIA. Stepping back was a healthy change for the show: the new editing style is terrific and we were over-burdened by a hefty backlog. It’s my goal as a producer to avoid developing such a backlog again. Because, bear in mind, we want to be current come the third annual Movie-Ghoul-Round later next month!
Your patience during this time has been so appreciated. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, and we look forward to having you torture us for many more You Did This to Us movies. Be on the lookout for the first episode of the revamped Movie-Go-Round in your feed later today."

#27 – The Gift
Movie Go Round
06/25/18 • 53 min
We spun the virtual wheel for “Netflix Roulette” and wound up with a movie we had trouble approaching: 2015’s "The Gift." What at first seems like a “creepy guy starts getting too close to the nice couple” thriller begins to take unexpected turns as the wife starts digging into the creepy guy’s past. The tone of the film is odd, and gets darker and more unsettling as it goes along. Join David, Brett, and Nicole as they ponder things like, Is this the most horrifying movie we’ve watched? How does Jason Bateman’s character get his influence? Does the punishment at the end fit the crime? And will we ever look at a monkey the same way again?
Next week is Future Classics. David brings us "The Grand Budapest Hotel."

#107 – Equilibrium
Movie Go Round
06/25/20 • 47 min
In this Netflix Roulette, the wheel spit out a cult...well, not classic...but entertaining hybrid/knockoff of Fahrenheit 451 and the Matrix - Equilibrium. We had fun talking about this stew of melee gunfighting and antifascist diatribe, asking questions like How many dystopian novels can one movie rip off? Is Christian Bale being used to his full potential? What are the drugs supposed to do and why don't they seem to be working for Taye Diggs? Are they seriously going to shoot that puppy? Those a**holes!

#102 – Chasing Amy
Movie Go Round
03/08/20 • 71 min
In this Netflix Roulette, we drew a milestone work of the 90s, Chasing Amy. We dove deep into LGBTQIA* themes as we talked about how ignorance could flourish before fast internet, how open and direct communication is vital in relationships, and how even the gay community had a habit of pigeonholing people into categories. Join us as Nicole, David, and Brett compare sexual injury stories here on Movie-Go-Round! (Okay, not really that last thing. Sorry.)

#101 – Paris, Texas
Movie Go Round
02/19/20 • 79 min
In this New to Two, Brett brought us Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas. This slow-paced showcase for Harry Dean Stanton is about a man named Travis, and his journey to reconnect with his son, with himself, and with his estranged wife. Music by Ry Cooder adds that “lonesome West” vibe. We pondered questions like: Why does his brother leave him alone? Who spoiled this kid so much he doesn’t want to use his own feet? Does Travis ever find redemption? And what did David and Nicole think of it all?

Follow along with the show by watching our next film, a Netflix Roulette spin, Chasing Amy. The new theme we experimented with for the closing of the show is Living Voyage by Kevin MacLeod, Creative Commons License 4.0.
#30 – Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Movie Go Round
07/16/18 • 50 min
Aw, guys, why? Whyyyyyy? You Did This to Us. You made us watch "Paul Blart: Mall Cop." What did we do wrong? In this Happy Madison production (there’s the first clue this won’t go well), a schlubby single dad who takes his low-end security job too seriously gets caught up in a holiday season heist and has to find a way to save the day. Brett, David, and Nicole had to watch this alleged comedy and found themselves asking questions like, Does the predictable script make this endearing or unbearable? How does this movie manage to be aggressively bland? And does the universe gain anything from this movie existing?
Next week is New to Two! The pick? Nicole chooses "Jackie Brown."
