Our guest for today's episode is Suzanne Lee Anderson who is a mother of four a midwife since 1995 and integrative nutritionist.
Suzan emphasises the importance of all stages of pregnancy and birth, including the period before conception, and the foundational importance of wellness for mother and baby.
We talk about...

  • Creating a foundation of wellness for mother and baby before conception, and the impact it has on all stages of pregnancy and birth.
  • Holistic wellness, including physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, and the importance of practices like meditation, yoga, and tai chi.
  • The benefits of conscious preparation and wellness for mother and baby before conception, including hormonal flow and releasing stress and beliefs around birthing and parenting.
  • Engaging with knowledge and practices around wellbeing in the early weeks of pregnancy, including addressing gut health and anxiety.
  • The power of the feminine during pregnancy and birth, and shifting the narrative around the strength of the female body.

Suzan is an Anthroposophical Midwife and integrative nutritionist and a mother to four adults. She has practiced midwifery in Aotearoa/ New Zealand since 1995 and currently resides in Mangawhai, New Zealand.
Suzan has a deep interest in ancient and traditional birth cultures and practices which has led her to Latin America on several occasions exploring birth practices in some of the oldest cultures. This also was the starting point of her current anthropological studies. Suzan has profound trust in the innate wisdom of the body, believing the passage from preconception to postpartum is directly linked to lifestyle practices and thus, promotes holistic consciousness to mind, body, and soul practices.
Suzan also knows each body has its own rhythm and does best with a slower overall pace to reduce unnecessary stress on the changing physiology and psychology during and beyond pregnancy to postpartum. Procreation is a field of passion for Suzan, being one of the significant rites of passage in the life of a woman. She knows it is a sacred journey into the mystical side of life, crossing the bridge between two worlds. In this space both mother and baby energetically transition.

Suzan now has a small practice, increasingly spending more of her time on preconception to postpartum knowledge and wisdom sharing. Her teachings follow the medicine wheel of holistic well-being and autonomy. Her greatest desire is that women experience safe and respectful care. Suzan believes that even in the most vulnerable times when women have access to facts and knowledge with good support from trusted others, they will feel secure to weave their desires and create the best pregnancy to postpartum care plan and birth location for themselves.
