Would you like an inside look at LDS temple building? On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon are so honored to be joined by Laurie Lee Hall to discuss her career building temples for the LDS church.
Laurie Lee was the chief LDS temple architect for 15 years, and also served as the director of design and construction for special projects and temples. She oversaw the design and building of 40 LDS temples. She also held several ecclesiastical leadership positions, including bishop and stake president.
Laurie Lee is one of the most fascinating guests we have ever had on Mormonish. The information she shares about temple building and her perspectives on the current temple building controversies is invaluable.
Laurie Lee Hall's new book "Dictates of Conscience: From Mormon High Priest to My New Life as a Woman" comes out on November 2024 and we hope you will all preorder a copy to learn more about her fascinating and incredible journey.

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon are joined by author Mark Lines to delve into the mysterious Book of Enoch and its influences on the emerging theology of Joseph Smith.
Mark's book, "Joseph Smith and the Book of Enoch:The Influence on Mormon Theology" explores Enoch as one of the sources of Joseph Smith's literary works.
Joseph's "translation projects" the Book of Mormon, Book of Moses, the Inspired Bible and Book of Moses include prophecies, visions and allusions to the ancient biblical prophet Enoch.
Did this renewed interest in Enoch in the religious and scholarly world during that time period directly influenced Joseph Smith's writings? Or do the similarities between Joseph's writings and the Book of Enoch point to a more divine origin?

In 2019, President Russell M. Nelson announced that there would be a new temple built in the Tooele area. Members of the LDS church were excited and speculated as to where it would be located. The temple site was announced and the renderings of the new temple made available in April of 2020. It was to be built in the small town of Erda, UT with only 3,000 residents and a completely rural environment.
But that wasn't all... It was soon announced that there would be a 167-acre pedestrian-oriented community right next to the temple. With 446 units ranging from single-family homes on half acre lots to townhouses and 54 senior housing units.
Residents of Erda were excited for a temple, but not the accompanying housing development. Could they have one without the other? Can you guess what the LDS church said?

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast, Rebecca and Landon joined by Dr. Matthew Harris as we delve into the world of Mormon nationalism and the legacy of Ezra Taft Benson. This topic is more relevant than ever as we seem to see a growing faction of Mormonism embracing white Christian nationalism.
In the mid-twentieth century, Ezra Taft Benson was a deeply controversial figure who served not only as Secretary of Agriculture under Dwight Eisenhower but also as a member the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. His ongoing battle to preach against communism and warn memebers that the United States was on the road to moral decay, put him at odds with many both politically and within the church.
The prophet and other members of the Quorum attempted to discipline Benson for allowing his political views to influence his religious leadership, but he continued to advocate for the John Birch Society and other radical causes, while promoting Christian nationalism.
Benson's legacy lives on today and even seems to be gaining momentum, as illustrated by the recent OUR and Tim Ballard information that has come to light. We know you'll be as fascinated as we were to dive into this very important topic.

On this episode of Mormonish Podcast Rebecca and Landon have a fascinating discussion with Brandon Crockett and Alex Criddle about their new proof of concept project "EntheoMagus," a 40-minute documentary delving into the possibility that Joseph Smith and the early Mormons were using psychedelic sacraments.as a means to connect with the divine.
This idea is gaining momentum as the mainstream learns more about plant medicines and their effects. Brandon and Alex present a compelling argument for the use of herbs and plants to facilitate group guided vision experiences as well as personal visions as described in early Mormonism.
We know you'll find this as fascinating as we did!

How do we talk to children about death in the absense of a specific religious tradition? In a special episode of Mormonish, Landon and Rebecca talk with children's author Kelsey B. Reynolds about her new book, "Where Do We Go After We Die?" Kelsey's beautifully self illustrated book explores the endless possibilities that exist when you ask the question, "What comes next?!" Her book gives children and adults a chance to read about and discuss a topic that can sometimes be difficult or frightening. Her gorgeous watercolor illustrations and simple prose make the topic very accessible in a wonderfully positive way. Kelsey also shares her own personal faith journey and details from her life that led her to delve more deeply into the question of what happens after we die. I guarantee you will want your own copy of this wonderful book! Maybe several!
