Asbury University President - Dr. Kevin Brown - Conferring Names and Hyper-seeing Potential

Kevin and I had a great conversation that I am sharing with you today. Time went by too quickly as we talked about the importance of hyper-seeing potential in others. Also, from his own story, Kevin shared the power of conferring names on the people we influence. When you hear these emphases from Kevin, I think you will understand why I am excited that he is serving as Asbury University's president. Check out that interview here.

Is spiritual warfare something we should study? Can we know very much about the spiritual world? Angels, demons, territorial spirits, generational curses, and the existence of Satan all fit within the topic of spiritual warfare. Some suggest that the subject is so uncertain and unclear that it isn’t worth our time to study it.

On today’s podcast, Dr. Matt Ayars gives us a taste of a new course he is teaching on spiritual warfare. You can sign up to audit or take this course for credit at wbs.edu.

More to the Story with Andy Miller III - Perfect Love - Kevin Watson - Recovering Methodism’s Lost Power

Many people in Wesleyan-holiness denominations have been looking for a clear, theologically focused book on holiness. Kevin Watson’s new book Perfect Love scratches that itch. I LOVED THIS CONVERSATION with Kevin and I think you will too.

You can find a link to Kevin's new book here.

I had the privilege of writing an endorsement for this book, here’s what I said:

With passion, clarity, and focus Kevin Watson yearns for the broad Methodist movement to experience, preach, and claim an infusion of perfect love—holiness. Watson’s scholarly grounding and pastoral focus remind me of salvationist Samuel L. Brengle. I will be recommending Perfect Love for the rest of my life.

—Captain Dr. Andy Miller III, Area Commander and Pastor The Salvation Army, Tampa, Florida

Also, I helped Seedbed connect with THE GENERAL of The Salvation Army and here’s what he said.

Phrases like entire sanctification, full salvation, holiness, and second blessing of holiness reminds me of a personal call to which I respond in the affirmative. I applaud a clear call to awaken ourselves to the blessing and gift of entire sanctification and I celebrate not simply a link to a tradition of teaching but a real experience that does translate into hope and healing . . . from the uttermost to the uttermost.

Do you know you can still access all of my past interviews with people like Tim Tennent, Horst Schulze, General Peddle, Tony Dungy, Israel Gaither, and more than 50 others? Check that out here.

Today’s podcast is a sermon I preached called ‘On Dead Ends’ and is based on Exodus 13:19. This passage comes as the Israelites come to the dead end of the Red Sea. I was interested to read the detail that Joseph’s bones were brought with the Israelites as they made this journey. This sermon challenges us to consider where God is when we face life’s dead ends.

Enough is Enough: A Step-by-Step Plan to Leave an Abusive Relationship with God’s Help

When the abuse starts, that’s when you know enough is enough. It’s time to find a haven somewhere else. There will be a chance down the road to assess where your marriage is headed n the long term. No one is saying divorce is the inevitable outcome. God can transform anyone. But He doesn’t promise to do that. People choose to persist in sin. And that’s why it’s imperative for you to leave . . . so you can think clearly, take stock of the situation, and most of all, protect yourself and those whom you love. Dr. David Clarke, a licensed psychologist specializing in marital therapy for more than 30 years, wants to help you make the break from your abusive relationship. Whether or not divorce is on the horizon is beside the point. You need to get out so you can sort it out.

Dr. Clarke understands this journey won’t be easy. That’s why he provides a step-by-step plan that includes practical advice as well as biblical guidance. But leave you must, because abuse is a sin that doesn’t come from above. Let this book help you get away from your abuser so you can give your marriage the best chance to succeed. Because only with some distance will you be able to see what your loving, ever-faithful God has in store for you.

DAVID E. CLARKE, PH.D., is a Christian psychologist, speaker, and
the author of fifteen books, including I Don’t Want a Divorce, My
Spouse Wants Out, and I Don’t Love You Anymore. He is a graduate
of Dallas Theological Seminary and Western Conservative Baptist
Seminary. He has been in private practice for more than thirty years,
focusing on marriages in crisis. He and his blonde wife, Sandy, live in
Tampa, Florida. They have four children and four grandchildren (so far;
they have asked for more grandkids).
