Podcast Q&A

Why did you start this show?

We started the show because we felt authenticity was the key to genuinely accepting and celebrating ourselves. It's incredible to share our stories and invite guests to talk about their lived experiences as gay, queer and LGBTQ-identifying people in their process of living vibrant lives. We love podcasts, so the medium was perfect for building and supporting a community around Modern Gays.

What do you hope listeners gain from listening to your show?

We want our listeners to feel like each episode is a good chat with a close friend. We want our Modern Gays' gayborhood to feel uplifted, enlightened and just feeling good about who they are and where they're headed in life. Our episode topics range from introspection to the intrapersonal, so there is insight to be learned for many aspects of our listeners' lives.

Which episode should someone start with?

The "2023 Wrapped: The Best of Modern Gays Season 1" is the perfect place to start as we cover our most popular episodes and summarise the best bits of the first year of publishing Modern Gays. From there you can get an idea of who Daniel and Garet are, their dynamic together, and what other episodes you may love to listen to next.

Which have been your favourite episodes so far?

Our personal favorite is "Am I the Drama? Am I the Villain?" episode and it was our listeners' most shared as well! We talk about being our true selves and not dialing it back so much that we lose who we are. Some of us are super dramatic and we think that's an amazing thing when its expressed with love and genuine excitement. We also talk about when we can be too much, like when we cross over to being the villain in certain scenarios too.

Which episode are you most proud of?

"Pride Unveiled" is a proud moment for us because it's raw and real, as we share personal letters to our younger (pre-coming out) selves. We discussed the importance and meaning of Pride than many of us don't always prioritise during this time of the year.

What is your vision for your show?

We want Modern Gays to inspire as many people as possible and we'd love to create a dynamic collection of multiple shows and platforms our community of gaybors to participate within.

What is your favourite other podcast that isn't yours?

We love Gayish, LGBTQ&A, Ride (with Benito Skinner and Mary Beth Barone) and Call Her Daddy. We were inspired by Alex Cooper's intimate and related interview style on CHD and we like to bring similar energy.

How did you come up with the name for your podcast?

The Modern Gays' podcast name is all about inclusion. The concept of being gay, queer or within the LGBTQ+ spectrum is changing every day. It's modernising on a daily basis and we love that. Modern Gays' is for the community of the past, present and future.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Daniel is a dancer turned tech startup venturer and has performed with icons like Kylie Minogue. Creative at the heart, with almost no filter, Daniel sashays all day to form meaningful relationships no matter what he’s doing. He met his now husband and Modern Gays co-host Garet while living in Los Angeles.
