In this episode, Mosh looks at the two biggest international stories going into your Tuesday: The US strike on the leader of al Qaeda, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s controversial visit to Taiwan.
First, we dive into the killing of Ayman al-Zawahiri, a key 9/11 plotter and the man who took over al Qaeda after Osama bin Laden. With Zawahiri’s death, all of the top plotters behind the worst terror attack on US soil are now either dead or captured. I discuss what his killing means, the future of the war on terror vs. al Qaeda and ISIS, and the stunning detail that he was living in Kabul, Afghanistan safe house, very close to the Taliban defense ministry.
Next, we look into the implications of Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan this week, now that it has been officially confirmed. China is ratcheting up threats while the White House reiterates that the Chinese shouldn’t turn this visit into a crisis. I answer some of your questions including: Why Pelosi is making the trip, what the Chinese are so worried about, and provide a breakdown of “One China” (the policy that lets us maintain different relations with Taiwan and China).

We will be marking one year since the beginning of the chaotic & tragic U.S. exit from Afghanistan next month. The rushed withdrawal brought America’s 20-year war to an abrupt end, allowing the Taliban to rapidly retake control of Afghanistan.
Mo News starts our anniversary coverage with a conversation with a US war veteran about their remarkable experience in battle and tough recovery here at home.
Mosh spoke to former Army Staff Sgt. Benjamin Sledge, who served tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He has a new book out, called "Where Cowards Go to Die," - a brutally honest portrait of war, bravery, and sacrifice. Sledge speaks candidly about the trauma of war and the mental health toll it has taken on tens of thousands of veterans.
Note: The episode starts with a few of today’s headlines.

You've seen the headlines: Travel Armageddon, Travel Nightmares, Travel Trouble. So this week, we turned to one of the country's leading travel experts to get some concrete answers on what's behind the endless flight delays and cancellations, and how to navigate it.
In this week's Mo News Interview, CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg tells Mosheh why the airlines were so unprepared for the explosion in travel demand, when he thinks things might improve, and if airlines' weather excuses are really legit (his answer might surprise you). Greenberg has covered the airline industry for years and breaks down why things have gone so wrong so far this summer.
He also gives us his best advice for picking a flight that might actually take off on time, when you should book flights to get the cheapest prices and some new countries to check out off the beaten path. You can read and watch more from the conversation in the Mo News Newsletter.

As we mark Pride Month and the anniversary of the Supreme Court's ruling that legalized gay marriage, Mo News looks at the incredible history and journey of the issue.
In less than 25 years, public opinion and laws shifted on same-sex marriage at record speed. Mosheh speaks with journalist Sasha Issenberg, the author of "The Engagement," which documents how the issue got to the nation's highest court.
They spoke about the twists and turns in the struggle--including the debate within the LGBTQ community whether to even pursue marriage equality. Sasha discusses the role of politics, corporations, Hollywood, religious groups and money in the lead up to the landmark 2015 court decision.

Supreme Court Insider Perspective - A Conversation with Jan Crawford on the Abortion Decision
Mo News
06/27/22 • 54 min
As we continue to determine the fallout of Friday's Supreme Court decision, Mosheh speaks to CBS Chief Legal Correspondent Jan Crawford for insight into the rulings and what they mean for the future of abortion in America as well as issues like same-sex marriage, IVF and contraception.
Crawford has nearly three decades of experience covering the court. She has a law degree from the University of Chicago and has reported on the Supreme Court for the Chicago Tribune, PBS, ABC and CBS News. When Mosheh last spoke to her in January, she predicted that the court would overturn Roe v Wade and so there was no one better to get perspective on how the decision went down.
Crawford brings clarity to the various opinions, why Roberts is effectively on an island, why Justice Thomas brought up things like same sex marriage and contraception in his solo opinion and whether it even matters. She then goes into what the various states might do next and brings a fascinating perspective to the history of the original Roe decision and how it may have actually hurt abortion rights long-term.
They also spoke about whether cameras may come to the Supreme Court, concerns about the safety of the justices, the fate of the leak investigation and what to make of the accusations the justices lied in their confirmation hearings. It's a must-listen.
