This is minted. A new podcast from the product of everyday things. In this series I'll be following a few NFT creators and collectors on their journeys into web-3 and sharing their experiences on the podcast. I'll be talking to economists academics. People who were there for web one and the people who are building web three and the metaverse right now.

We're entering the third wave of the internet. Jump-started by a revolution in decentralized finance.

Blockchain technology has carried Bitcoin into a $40,000 per- share reality in 2021. Blockchain and NFTs or non fungible tokens provide new models of monetization and ownership, engineering a bridge to our new collective reality in the metaverse.

If you're not convinced...

In 2021, the digital fashion studio artifact partnered with an 18 year old artist for an NFT drop that generated $3 million in just seven minutes.

Web-1 was the platform for centralized businesses like Amazon to grow to a $30 billion market cap by 1999. Web-2 was the platform for writers and filmmakers.

That means web-3 could be the platform for those creators for whom web too hasn't brought about the same levels of success as the bloggers, YouTubers and Instagram influencers. Web-3 is for the creators of immersive content. That means artists, fashion designers, and musicians, as well as a new generation of filmmakers game studios and interactive storytellers.

Details on how to support the show, including donations and affiliate links to crypto platforms and other services like Instacart and Fiverr are listed below the show notes. Episode DescriptionThis episode explores a few different, but related, NFT and Web3 communities. I talk to Community Manager and founder of Weekend Club - Charlie Ward - about his journey into crypto and NFTs. We discuss Tokenomics and DOAs (Decentralised Autonomous Organisations). As well as a few NFT projects including Creepz and Pool Suite.

To help clarify the economic mechanisms around Tokenomics and DOAs, I also speak to Spyros Galanis in this episode. He's a Professor of Economics at Durham University and advisor to Aaro Capital on various aspects of blockchain and web3 (from an economic perspective).

In the third episode of Minted, I interview Eli. A French-Canadian artist who went from avoiding NFTs to succesfully selling a small collection in just a few months. Her work has raised money for a non-profit in Costa Rica (where she now lives) called Sea Turtles Forever. Eli's story provides inspiration for artists and designers who are new to the NFT space. Her journey is honest and full of setbacks. Which is what it takes to overcome resistance when trying something new.In the show we talk about:

Eli's moment of insipiration when she came face to face with a turtle- How Eli overcame resistance to learn about NFTs and create her own collection- Why meeting other women into NFTs on TikTok motivated her to look deeper into NFTs- Why saving Turtles matter, and how NFTs could be used by charities in future to raise money

New combinations can seem strange and there's a lot of those in Web3. Combining decentralisation and organisation for one. Then there's the combination of "no-loss" and "lottery". Pool Together is a web3 protocol and service that combines all of those together into one service. It's somewhere between a lottery and a kind of savings account.. run by a community largely and its all on-chain.Disclosure: I have a small amount of money in PoolTogether and have so far won $5. However, there's much more to pool together than the promise of a prize. The community is very special. In this episode I talk with Richard Liriano, who's a member of pool together and very much an evangelist! He's not paid by Pool Together, but he does represent the feeling I got from talking with the community in general on their Discord. I also speak with two Web3 Marketers who were working on the marketing for Pool Together at the time. They tell me how they got into web3 as marketers and what makes the product and the community special.
