Welcome to the Middle Age(ish) Podcast, hosted by Ashley Bedosky, Lisa Kelly, Dr. Pam Wright, and Trisha Kennedy Roman. In this episode, we speak with Charla Turner - author of Trustworthy, How to deepen the relationships you need and avoid the ones you don't.
Trust is truly at the heart of every relationship, whether personal or professional. Without trust, meaningful relationships are not sustainable. Charla Turner gives a raw and honest discussion of her trust journey and such valuable insight into the significance of trust in our relationships.
We discuss some of the challenges we have all personally faced with trust and communication and some of the factors that bring about "trust issues." How do you trust? "That's the crux of the book....How can you know if you can trust somebody? You gotta trust them!" – Charla Turner - Author of Trustworthy
Charla talks about the importance of healing past hurts and knowing your values and standards in a relationship. She talks about the importance of relationships in our lives and how each relationship we have, whether pleasant or painful, is a learning experience. "You win or you learn, like you either win a friend or you learn a lesson." – Charla Turner - Author of Trustworthy

The title of this podcast really encompasses the core of our conversation. Relationships are so important and TRUST is the cornerstone of all relationships. "You can't do this journey by yourself. That was never the purpose to walk this life by yourself or with just a handful of people. It was to encounter people that bring something in a season of our life." – Ashley Bedosky

Welcome to the Middle Age(ish) Podcast, hosted by Ashley Bedosky, Lisa Kelly, Dr. Pam Wright, and Trisha Kennedy Roman. In this episode, we talk with relationship expert Lair Torrent, LMFT.

Wow! This episode is a must listen for anyone of any age who has or will have a relationship with another individual! Seriously, we learned so much about relationships and communication with others in our short time with Lair.

Lair has a unique approach to therapy and counseling, combining Eastern based mindfulness practices and western clinical models to create a powerful approach to healing. We found the points he made about how we communicate with our partners fascinating and very useful for any relationship at any stage.

When it comes to trying to win an argument, we have all probably been guilty of wanting to be right and “win” the fight. Lair made a very good point that if one wins the fight and the other loses, nobody really wins.

“Competition really can't live in love. If you really love this person, why would you want them to lose anything?” –Lair Torrent, LMFT

When it comes to being middle age(ish) and older, we all know our bodies change. We loved Lair’s approach to keeping the physical attraction alive in any stage of life. He talked about being mindful and loving in the narrative we form in our thoughts about our partner with regards to their attractiveness.

“Gravity's going to happen, age is starting to happen. We want to be able to look upon our partners with kindness and compassion, empathy, and understanding. We want to be graceful within those thoughts.”—Lair Torrent, LMFT

Lair really pointed out how our inner self, our experiences as a child, and our experiences throughout life can really play a part in how we communicate in a relationship. Many times, we don’t realize exactly “who” is showing up or what we are truly fighting about. He talked about how unconsciously, we bring about parts of us that have been wounded or unfulfilled in the past. His approach is to help us to discover these parts to better understand our communication.

Let me tell you that all of the Middle Age(ish) hosts had Lair’s book ordered right after the interview. Whether you want to keep a healthy relationship healthy, work on a struggling relationship, or want to prepare for future relationships, we think his approach is so incredibly helpful!

Welcome to the Middle Age(ish) Podcast, hosted by Ashley Bedosky, Lisa Kelly, Dr. Pam Wright, and Trisha Kennedy Roman. In this episode, we talk with Josh Shelton - Certified Threat Manager.

When we arranged this interview, we knew that this was an important topic, but we were cautious to avoid any hot political debates. We were shocked and horrified to hear the reports coming in of a shooting in the local Atlanta area just hours before we began this scheduled interview. This further solidified for us that this was a topic we wanted to discuss for our listeners.

It seems that those of us classified as "Middle Age(ish)" and older maintained some sense of innocence in our youth, not hearing so much of violent attacks in the media during our younger years. Our children and younger generations have not been as fortunate, with active shooter drills in school taking place like the fire and tornado drills that we all were accustomed to.

This discussion was not a political talk, but a humanity talk, with a deep concern for what appears to be a growing problem in the US. Our guest speaker has a strong passion for addressing the problem of violence and bringing more awareness of taking a proactive approach to violence prevention through organizations such as The Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, (ATAP).

Our hope with this episode is that listeners affiliated with businesses, schools, places of worship, etc, will visit the ATAP website, look at ways to form these multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment teams, and for us to collectively as concerned humans, regardless of political party, become more proactive rather than reactive to these devastating acts of violence.
For more information on The Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, (ATAP) visit: https://www.atapworldwide.org/

Welcome to the Middle Age(ish) Podcast, hosted by Ashley Bedosky, Lisa Kelly, Dr. Pam Wright, and Trisha Kennedy Roman. In this episode we talk with Alena LeBlanc and Heather Riggs all about fashion and style.

Alena is a personal stylist and fashion designer who works with career women to help them look and feel their best. She is the founder of LeBlanc Label. Heather is the founder of HER Style, LLC and host of HER Style Podcast. As a 15-year Certified Image Consultant and Color Specialist, Heather helps ambitious women show up ─ and get dressed every day ─ with confidence. Both women offered great tips to help us pick the right colors and styles to fit our individual body types.

“I like getting creative using things that you already own. So I'll try to make like three different looks for them that they would never have thought of. So it gives the piece more life.” – Alena LeBlanc

We talked about each of our own fashion challenges and what is important to each of us to make us feel more confident about the way we look. Ashley talked about how good shoes and a handbag can create an outfit for her to make her feel her best. Lisa noted hair and make-up was more important to her than the outfit. Trisha shared her idea of “holiday pants” only to find out that her genius idea had already been taken by Joey on Friends. Pam gave us the story of how she got the black eye that she perfectly coordinated with her shirt!

Heather noted that today’s technology has allowed her to have clients from all over the world. ”That's the great thing about today. You know, you can work with people from anywhere using Zoom and things like that. It's really easy to be able to just go right into your client's wardrobes and see what they're working with.” – Heather Riggs

As per the norm our conversation took lots of hilarious pivots, going from discussing celebrity style to thongs to being completely devastated to learn that Ireland doesn’t really have leprechauns! Hence, the unique name of this episode.
