Matthew Hoag Being anonymous music aficionado, music professional or a sexy Pacha girl, there are two things you really should know about Matthew Hoag: meeting him in person is always fun. Joining him for the night clubbing is a life changing experience. This vivid, cheerful, friendly bon vivant isn’t just one of those guys who want to know everything about the music as an art and the whole business behind it. He’s foremost a really nice person and his works are excellent reflections of his embrace-the-life globe trotting attitude. The earliest seed that indicated Matthew’s future career is hidden somewhere on the dance floor was his passion for light shows. He became light-operator for the matinees in one of the local clubs already as a teenager. Few years latter he took a job at the local radio station. That’s where he learned how the radio station works, how the program is being put together, he became skillful technician, and he also listened to a lot of music: “I guess this is the main reason why I can’t be put in the box as an artist. I was exposed to all range of commercial and non commercial music. And it was that period when I grew taste for good alternative music and explored even genres such as jazz and blues.” Meanwhile his career took a big leap forward as he became “illegal” light operator at the infamous Ambasada Gavioli club. This wasn’t his job. Put more precisely: he wasn’t even allowed to come near the console by the boss. But the resident deejays liked his touch and invited him into the booth whenever possible. “I was hanging around to listen to the sets of Valentino Kanzyani. Ambasada was the playground for the biggest names in the game. And Sven Väth was the one that really stood out of the flock: it was his human energy, power of his music, his ability to control the dance floor what ultimately convinced me to become a deejay.” Although it wasn’t Sven’s or Valentino’s sound that he wanted to follow. “I’ve started with house, explored the progressive and I guess I could be considered tech-house artist nowadays,” summarizes Matthew who as a very versatile and eclectic artist doesn’t brand himself. He broke trough as a deejay when spotted by Valentino Kanzyani at the party in Croatia: “Valentino is one of the biggest figures in my life. He’s my brother from another mother,” likes to jest Matthew about their friendship. “He invited me to join his office, where I’ve got introduced to every angle of label management and music promotion business.” 2009 saw Matthew kicking the dance floors around the globe, from Columbia to Turkey, from Spain to Greece, from Germany To Brazil.
Miami Sessions With Rod B. presents Big Daddy Brown MUM episode 214
Miami Underground Movement - M.U.M.
07/08/13 • 79 min
Rod B. & Mareis bring you the Miami Sessions @ Miami Underground MovementAt 52 years old Dave “Big Daddy” Brown has been around since before the birth of dance music. Or for that matter, punk, reggae, new wave, hard rock, hip-hop, rap and metal. In fact, he came rushing headlong into this world in 1961, the same year Patsy Cline was topping the charts with Willie Nelson’s “Crazy”.He was ten years old when he bought his first ever record, Led Zeppelin’s immortal classic, “Immigrant Song”, which remains one of his favourite songs of all time. The joy was short-lived though, his mum made him take it back to the record store as it wasn’t considered “appropriate”...but it was cheekily swapped for Deep Purple’s “Demon’s Eye” instead.Variously falling in love with sounds like Led Zep, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, The Ramones, Motorhead, Pantera and Tool, Big Daddy’s die seem cast in either the thrash of punk or the dark grooves of heavy metal. But dabbling in the early ‘90s rave scene in Sydney Australia he became exposed to early psy-trance and acid house. But it wasn’t until a monumental set by the legendary Carl Cox at Bondi Beach Sydney on NYE 2000 that the die was cast. Within two days Dave had bought his first decks. Absorbing sounds from iconic techno and house DJs like Carl Cox, John Digweed, Green Velvet and Jeff Mills, he started the long and lonely journey of every true DJ, to find his own sound. Dave’s live sets invariably involve a variety of styles with techno and tech-house as the basis but a preference for dark techno. Well regarded for his programming and immaculate blend mixing his sets are never planned whether live or recorded, believing in the true essence of a “live” performance.Having played predominantly in Asia, he was offered residencies at the iconic Bed Supperclub and Glow in Bangkok where he successfully pushed a tech-house sound in an electro-house world many years before it before it became fashionable. However Big Daddy is the antithesis of most DJs and doesn’t seek fame or fortune in any way, in fact he keeps out of the limelight and finds it completely ironic to even have had bio written for him.He is legendary for turning down gigs to allow younger DJs to take the opportunities available. It’s through this modesty and generosity that he has cheekily become known as “Big Daddy “. Dave is vehement in his belief that music comes first and its future resides with the young.Well known in the Brisbane (Australia) underground scene, Dave has played alongside some of the biggest names in international techno although he’d never mention names. He currently only plays certain events by invitation from people who know their music.Knowing that the music will never die, Dave’s plans are to build his own beach-club in Asia in 2015 where he intends to see out his days sharing the music he loves so much without any distractions. He truly does hope to leave this life in a DJ booth with his headphones still on!

Matthew Ohashi was born in Queens, NY to parents of Asian/Latino decent. From an early age, he was exposed to a wide variety of music ranging from jazz, classical, to classic and grunge styles of rock music. At the age of 7, he began training in classical piano, the root of his musical understanding. Matthew took a deep interest in music from a very early age, spending much time gathering and cataloging music after his first exposure to computers. At the age of 9, he moved to Miami, FL which was a large factor in his musical upbringing. From his pre-teen years, Ohashi would frequent house parties in which he was exposed to a variety of Latin styles of music in addition to Miami Booty Bass, breaks and retro styles. Soon after Ohashi was exposed to Trance music and his journey into music has progressed ever since. Aged only 25 James Talk is already one very busy lad. Hailing from the murkiest waters of Southampton, James has already achieved a tremendous amount at such a young age and it seems like things aren't slowing down either. Be it through his DJing or productions, causing mayhem on the world's finest dancefloors with the very best in funky tech and acid house is his specialist subject and it takes no mastermind to realize that Talk is the name and very much the answer.
Rewind ten years and James' addiction to this stuff we call house was already in its infancy. Allured by the acid basslines piercing their way through the sky every Saturday night from nearby fields and warehouses, James soon discovered that his attention was being drawn away from his eight times table and towards the likes of Prodigy and Underworld.
James' fascination rapidly reached new levels when at the age of 14 he purchased his first set of decks, followed soon after by his first DJ gig in a youth club in his home town. With many gigs at student nights soon to follow, these early steps paved the way for James to nurture his unique sound and gain a greater understanding of how to move a crowd.
Fast forward to the new millennium and James decided to try his hand at production with almost immediate success. His first track 'Eggs Are Cute' was signed by Nu-Republic Records, receiving major support from the planets leading DJs including James Zabiela and Sasha. Tracks packed with similar acid riffs and killer b-lines were soon to follow with three of them being instantly signed to Saved Records, following a chance meeting with label boss Nic Fanciulli. The first 'Love That Acid', reached no 10 in the UK Buzz Charts, whilst the other two 'House Rhythm' and 'Get Down', both received critical acclaim from all sides of the dance music press, with the latter appearing on Nic's Renaissance mix compilation. Further praise was given to James in a major interview when Fanciulli uttered just three words when asked who the next big thing in dance music was; "James Talk ' Amazing."
James has continued to work alongside individuals who have helped him advance musically by completing reworks for the likes of Buick Project, Audio Magnetics and Danny Howells, whilst a three track EP, under his Ri-Tek alias, has been signed to Phil Docherty's Pravo Recordings and gained support from the likes of John Digweed, Steve Lawler and King Unique. Recently James has been working with none other than Pete Tong in the studio, with the duo recently completing a remix of Wally Lopez for Pacha Records.
Such productions have also resulted in James' DJ diary fill up rapidly, only furthered by a superb guest mix on John Digweed's Kiss 100 show in February 2005. He has now played all over the UK and beyond alongside luminaries such as Nic Fanciulli, Lee Burridge, James Zabiela and Desyn Masiello and looks forward to upcoming gigs at Godskitchen, Renaissance, Fandango at Turnmills and New Years Eve for High Tide. James will finalise what has been a fantastic year by mixing the next CD in the Thinking Out Loud series, due for release at the end of 2005.
Special Thanks to Mr Talk =)

Stefano from Rimini got into music when he still only 12, by listening to italian dance music and a little bit of house: in the meanwhile it was born the love for making music.
He produces his first production in 1997, by making some dance tracks. In the year 2000 he felt a suddenly upside down, when he first listen to thecno music, thanks to the magic venue in the nearby, The Cocorico' Club, where everything seemed to be different than the other places: it all came to a massive energetic sound!!!!
So in the year 2003 he met my colleague Daniel, a.k.a. CantoDj with whom he started to plan seriously my producer career together. When 2 crazy minds join their forces together, it could only come out a strong and talented project in which his idea and my skills in making music work perfectly together. That's how TEAMTEK was born, a duo project founded by CantoDj and myself.
