How a Major Health Scare Made Me Fear the Worst
Mental Health and Us
05/25/19 • 18 min
In this week's show, I want to talk about my recent health scare, which I touched upon in my last episode where I talked about my weight loss journey.
After the 8-week period was over, I took a little break to celebrate. While I wasn't exercising, I did continue with my smoothies, etc. However, following a dinner I had the evening after finishing the challenge, I took a turn for the worse.
It felt as though I was having a heart attack. I'd had a similar problem last year, but this felt a little different. No matter what I did, I just couldn't shake the severe pain that I was in.
In this week's show, I share what happened, the various things I went through, and why it's important to be aware of this, as your physical health is important to your mental health.

Finding a Positive Mindset to a Healthier Life
Mental Health and Us
05/18/19 • 18 min
In this week's show, I want to talk about how I lost over 30lbs in 8 weeks, and how a positive mindset helped me to a healthier life, and the impact that can have on your mental health.
I'll be honest - it wasn't easy. There were a lot of things I had to give up, or reduce greatly, while adding things to my diet and lifestyle that I didn't necessarily want to add.
But having changed my mindset, and gone through the 8 week program, I've definitely noticed an impact on my overall health - mental as well as physical.
This is something I'll dive into more on future shows, but today I want to give you an idea of what I went through, and how you can follow some of the steps I took if you want to make a physical change in your life.

Why Being Awkward is Perfectly Normal
Mental Health and Us
04/10/19 • 6 min
In last week's show, I spoke about why it's okay to not be perfect. Striving for perfection only helps to increase anxiety and, by association, depression. And that's the last thing we need added to our everyday journey with our illness.
Today I want to expand on that, and share why it's also okay - in fact, perfectly normal - to be awkward. Because while we may feel that being awkward makes us look foolish, often we're our own worst critic and the only one who's actually noticing our awkwardness.

How Mental, Physical, and Spiritual Health Combine to Help You with Your Mental Health
Mental Health and Us
04/14/19 • 7 min
In this week's show, I want to talk about how the combination of mental, physical, and spiritual wellness plays an important part on our mental health journey.
You have to better the whole package if you expect to see results. Mental, physical, and spiritual states all have to be aligned. Mind, body, and soul.
The way I see it is, you can have the best body in the world, physically in shape, eating the best foods, and running marathons while lifting weights... but if you don’t take care of your brain and your heart, you will still be unhappy.

You Don't Need to Be Perfect
Mental Health and Us
04/01/19 • 7 min
Last week, I recorded an episode of Mental Health and Me while under what I can only call "not the best circumstances". While I could have left the episode up, I really wasn't happy with it, as you'll found out in this new episode. I'll still share the topic of the previous episode three, probably in next week's show.
Today, though, while I share what happened last week, I want to talk about why you don't need to be perfect. Why whatever you do, you should be proud of, because you actually had the courage to do it.
It's okay to do things over. It's okay to not settle for things the first time you do them. Because we're not perfect, and that means we're allowed to do things over. And over. And over again. Allow yourself to breathe, and simply try again until you feel comfortable and confident with your own results.

Talking With My Husband About His Recent Diagnosis
Mental Health and Us
03/17/19 • 9 min
Recently, my husband was diagnosed with depression. He'd been suffering for a while, without actually realizing he had all the symptoms that come with depression.
It wasn't until he literally couldn't take another step forward that he decided he needed to seek help, and his own journey with depression (and anxiety) began.
In episode 2 of Mental Health and Me, I chat with him about that realization, and how his life has changed since being diagnosed, and what advice he'd give to those in his shoes pre-diagnosis.

It's been a rough ride, I won't lie - but through all the ups and downs I've experienced myself, I hope I can offer you some hope and inspiration when it comes to taking care of you, and battling your own mental health issues.
