So excited to have Dan Nevins share his incredibly powerful story of how he came to not only practice, but teach Yoga! A highly decorated soldier, Dan was severely injured during combat in Iraq in 2004 after an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated beneath his vehicle. He lost both legs below the knee, and lives with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and the emotional wounds of war. Dan discovered the life-changing power of yoga, which has enabled him to heal from the invisible wounds of war in a way that nothing else could. He quickly realized that other wounded warriors could benefit from yoga in the same way and knew he had to become an instructor. Dan became a Baptiste Yoga teacher in 2015, and now incorporates the notion of “yoga for every-body” into his speeches and classes, encouraging people from all walks of life – and veterans in particular – to take up the practice. We are excited to speak with our guest today - Remi Adeleke - US Navy SEAL... He is one of the most inspiring guests we have had on the show to date. We thought there isn't a better and more enticing way to start the show than to talk about some of the great things Remi has accomplished. Check out this guy's resume and he is still in his 40s . Remi was born into a wealthy and prominent family in Lagos Nigeria - His father due to the corruption within the Nigerian and Logos government ended up losing all of their wealth and he sadly died when Remi was 5yo. Now penniless, Remi, his mother and brother moved to the United states and settled into the rough side of The Bronx. Growing up on the streets Remi witnessed a drive-by shooting, was beat up by some local gang bangers, got in trouble with the law on more than one occasion. Ran and profited off a cell phone scam that involved local drug dealers - he lost all that money too. He heard a calling and joined the US military and became a Navy SEAL - Class 266. Remi endured Hell Week twice due to a medical roll back. As a SEAL he was eventually deployed to Iraq. Remi found God - learned to meditate - and now works as an actor and filmmaker in Hollywood with Michael Bay. He is married to a pediatrician and together they have four kids In 2019 he Published: Transformed: A Navy SEAL’s Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds” that has racked up over 1000 reviews on Amazon. And his latest accomplishment was the Sept 2022 release of this film “The Unexpected” that brings awareness to the growing problem of human trafficking. WOW! Check out Remi on Instagram @remiadeleke, his YouTube channel is https://youtube.com/channel/UCd7m4t3XMEfSn2hgLvxKowQ His short film The Unexpected is here: https://youtu.be/6xUwS39mFs0 And his book: Transformed: A Navy SEAL’s Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa, to the Streets of the Bronx, to Defying All Odds https://www.amazon.com/dp/0785241663/ref=cm_sw_r_api_i_RYQ0WPT6KWDW09R1XTKZ_0 If you’d like to know more about the upcoming Ninety Day Movement and Mindfulness Experience, check out the link here and use the code M2100 to get $100 off! https://movement-rx.com/mindfulness-experience/ Time stamps: 00:00 Never Giving Up w/ Remi Adeleke 01:00 Introducing Remi Adeleke 02:30 Join us for the 90 Day M2 Experience 03:30 Jon leads Opening Grounding Practice (~1 min) 05:30 Remi’s inspiration to never gave up 09:30 Why Remi’s mom insisted he write 14:00 Remi’s advice to others 30:00 The impact of faith and meditation 35:00 Remi’s shining too bright! 36:00 Trusting your inner wisdom 42:30 Returning to Nigeria 51:00 Transformed... the movie? 54:00 What’s next? 58:00 Will leads Closing Practice (~1 min) Your Hosts: Will is excited to teach you how to develop self-mastery. Men Talking Mindfulness - Dealing with Narcissistic Personalities
play

07/31/23 • 69 min

Welcome to the next episode of the "Men Talking Mindfulness" podcast, where hosts Will and Jon dive deep into a topic that affects many: how to work with narcissistic personalities and how to recognize, and even eliminate, elements of narcissism within ourselves. In this vital discussion, Will and Jon break down the complexities of narcissism, elucidating the behaviors and mindsets that characterize this personality trait. We often associate narcissism with an inflated sense of self-importance and a lack of empathy. But there's much more to it, and recognizing these traits in others and ourselves is the first step towards understanding and growth. Jon and Will talk about how to handle interactions with narcissistic individuals, emphasizing the importance of setting boundaries and employing empathy and assertiveness. Their insight into navigating these tricky waters is based on both personal experience and a wealth of professional knowledge, providing listeners with practical tools and strategies to use in their daily lives. Yet, they don't stop there. Will and Jon also turn the lens on themselves and the listener, discussing how we can recognize and curb narcissistic tendencies within ourselves. The idea is not to demonize narcissism—since we all have a mix of traits—but to identify unhealthy patterns and strive towards self-improvement. Join Will and Jon as they shed light on this often misunderstood topic, sharing their wisdom and inviting a thoughtful discussion. Remember, self-awareness and empathy are key components of mindfulness, and exploring narcissism is part of this ongoing journey. Tune in for an enlightening, no-holds-barred conversation that invites each of us to take a closer look at our relationships and ourselves. PS... please excuse Jon’s “heavy breathing” hahaha.
