Oceanic breathing is a type of breathing that encourages the passage of prana, or life-force energy, throughout the body. It consists of a long, smooth inhalation followed by a tightening of the muscles in the back of the throat on exhalation. The sound of ocean waves is produced by the contraction of the neck muscles.
This breathing method is known by the Sanskrit title ujjayi ("triumphant") breathing and is also known as victorious breath or cobra breath.

Of course, you can also plug in any type of familiar music especially as numerous scientific studies have shown that listening to music, say, the classical music of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven can encourage similar effects.
However, meditation music is preferred for, well, meditation because its structure, rhythm, and harmony, among other aspects, are specifically designed for the purpose. You are then more likely to relax faster, respond easier, and meditate better with calming music than with any other musical genre.
The structure, rhythm, and harmony of said musical genre do not contain sudden crescendos and decrescendos, among other distracting elements, that other types of music - yes, even classical music - possess.
These are easier said than done considering that everyday issues, images, and thoughts drift in and out of your consciousness, thus, distracting the mind from the job at hand. Your body and brains have been attuned to the expected response to the meditation music that even when you are just listening to it sans the meditation part, you almost unconsciously react to its soothing melodies.
Indeed, when you listen to meditation music, not only are you able to relax in mind and body but you are also able to identify and then express the feelings, experiences, and thoughts associated with your stress.
Every time that you listen to it, you can feel your worries, cares, and issues in your mind slip away into nothingness while your body finally becomes as relaxed as possible.

Autogenic Training: What You Should KnowAutogenic training is a stress-reduction approach that focuses on developing sensations of peace and relaxation in the body.
According to Sanam Hafeez, PsyD, a neuropsychologist and Columbia University faculty member, it helps decrease anxiety originating from situations or settings that may overwhelm us with stress, irritation, or despair.
Autogenic training was created in the 1920s by German psychologist Johannes Heinrich Schultz as a means to target the physical manifestations of stress by employing relaxation exercises to gain control over these processes.
According to Hafeez, this technique is frequently used in conjunction with cognitive behavioral therapy, but it can also be employed on its own to assist people in coping with stress.
Autogenic Progressive Relaxation's AdvantagesAccording to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health Trusted Source, the goal of most relaxation techniques, including autogenic training, is to encourage your body's natural relaxation response by slowing breathing, lowering blood pressure, and, ultimately, producing a feeling of increased well-being.
Autogenic training, which was originally intended to educate people on how to stimulate physical relaxation on their own, is now commonly used in counseling sessions to manage anxiety symptoms, which Hafeez defines as any mental or physical manifestations of anxiety.
"Autogenic training can help with conditions including social anxiety disorder (SAD), general anxiety disorder (GAD), depression, and sleeplessness," says Hafeez.
Autogenic training is also beneficial for coping with daily stress and can even aid with panic episodes.
How to Go About ItYou can start using these relaxation techniques on your own once you've gotten used to the process or just download and use the guided meditation on this podcast episode.
Set yourself up. Make sure you have a peaceful, comfortable spot to unwind before you begin. This should ideally be the same location where you practice relaxation techniques every time.
These exercises can be done either lying down or sitting up. Remove your spectacles and loosen any clothing that is too tight.
Begin by focusing on your breathing. Slowing down your breathing is the first step. Start with calm, even breaths, and make sure you're in a comfortable position. "I am fully peaceful," say yourself once you've gained control of your breathing. Simply repeating this to yourself may be enough to induce relaxation.
Pay attention to various parts of your body. Begin with your right arm and say aloud, "My right arm is heavy, I am fully relaxed," while breathing slowly and steadily. Rep with the second arm and leg, continually returning to "I am absolutely peaceful."
Concentrate on your heartbeat. "My heartbeat is calm and regular," repeat six times to yourself while inhaling deeply, and then remark, "I am entirely relaxed." This is repeated for various parts of your body, including your abdomen, chest, and forehead.
You might also wish to try a Guided Autogenic Progressive Relaxation like the one in this podcast in addition to these steps. This allows you to completely unwind and concentrate on the technique.
This is a good place to start for those who have never practiced any form of relaxation before. Use this session to enter deep alpha and theta states for stress reduction, or enter into lucid dreaming or even heightened sensory and higher states of conscious awareness.

Visualizing what you want to create and then making it happen is one of the most motivating and powerful things you can do as a human being. The mind's power is incredible, and when combined with mindfulness-based activities like meditation, you may significantly boost your potential to create the life you genuinely desire.

Setting and achieving goals leads you from where you are now to where you want to be when done deliberately with intention, action, momentum, and focus. But first, you must figure out where that is. Your vision is where the "where" begins.
The first step is to think about the final result and move backward from there. The end result is your highest vision for a certain aspect of your life, whether it's health and fitness, relationships, family, profession, or finances. After you've connected with your vision, you'll need to develop precise goals to help you realize it.
Many people confuse the objective with the vision, believing that the aim is the final product. They set a goal without considering what it will enable them to become, do, or have in the long run. It's critical to link your goal-setting process to the type of life you ultimately want to live in order to get the most out of it. Let's break down the fundamental differences between a vision and a goal for the sake of clarity.

Begin with an area of your life in mind. Choose an area of your life you want to improve or would like to experience some transformation to a new way of living.
Start to imagine the best possible outcome in this area of your life 6 to 12 months into the future. Imagine living your life the way you would envision it if all your hopes and dreams were to come true. Try not to focus on limitations or negativity. Just allow yourself to get carried away with your wildest dreams and desires.
Connect with one goal you would like to achieve in the next three months. Make it a good one. If you choose a goal that doesn’t carry a lot of weight or isn’t all that meaningful, the end result won’t feel all that special. So be sure to choose something that is big enough so that you will be left with a high level of accomplishment and feel motivated to set your next goal.
When you feel connected to your goal, imagine what your life will be like once you have completed it. Create a movie in your mind and step inside the visual representation looking through your own eyes. Adjust all of the qualities of sensory perception (taste, touch, sight, sound, smell) to create the most positive and most real feelings. Who is there with you? Where are you? What is happening around you?
Next, step out of the image you’ve created and imagine floating up above where you are now, taking the mental image with you. Take a deep inhale and as you exhale, use your breath to energize the image, filling it with positive energy and intention. Do this at least five times.
Now, imagine floating out into your future life and visualize your goal in your life at the date and time you’ve set for this goal to be completed.
Notice how all the events between then and now support you in accomplishing your goal. Visualize this process to make it feel real and exciting.
Once you feel the positive energy of accomplishing your goal, with your eyes still closed, consider what action steps you will take in the next week to move you closer to your desired goal.
Take a few deep relaxing and focused breaths to ground yourself before opening your eyes. Write down your list of action steps needed to accomplish this goal and journal about your experience for each visualization meditation and session.
Take action and maintain your focus on your goal. Every day, do something that moves you closer to realizing and accomplishing your goal and living your dream.
